Perch ,walleye, and wiper!!![;)]
walleye, perch and channel cats
For Utah being a ‘trout’ state warm water species seem to be the favorite.[;)]
- Perch
- Any other spiny ray species
- Channel catfish
- Little high mountain brookies almost still wigglin when they hit the pan.
- other salmonids.
- Cow manure
- Carp
About 25 years ago I used to catch a lot of perch from Deer Creek. Back then few people fished for the perch and I used to get a lot of funny looks from people when they saw me keeping them. One day I fed some fried perch fillets to my sister-in-law and her husband. He was so amazed at how good they were that he went up a few nights later to catch some on his own. He had no idea how to fillet a fish, so he prepared them just like he did trout: cut the belly open, pull the guts out, roll them in flour and fry them. They ended up with mouthfuls of scales, which were apparently pretty nasty.
He accused me of lying to him about the type of fish I fed them since the ones he fixed were so nasty. My wife and I took him and his wife out a few nights later to catch perch and cook a shore lunch so he would believe me. Then we had a lesson on how to fillet fish. After that he frequently went on his own to catch them.
It’s too bad so many people learned that perch are good to eat. There used to be a lot less competition for the warmwater species.
I love perch and bluegils waleyes and stripers, all the warm water fishies. To bad alot of my family still think if it’s not a slime rocket it is a trash fish. I think slimers are gross and will not eat them!
**I see the almighty cat fish is rather conspicuous in it’s absence from this post!!! **
**I would have to say Cat Fish followed by Walleye as a close second. **
Trout are edible if cooked right (and I do eat them), but if cooked wrong you might as well lick it before you let it go. It would taste the same.
It’s discrimination, I tell ya. They did not even include catfish in the voting. I’d be willing to bet that a lot of folks who have not tried catfish (because they are ugly), would swear off trout once they had a shot at some kitty fillets.
TubeBabe and I are both quite fond of cats, both for catchin’ and eatin’. She would rather catch one nice kitty than a basket full of walleyes. Strange woman.
Any woman who gets as excited about fishing as Tubebabe is a rare catch, and a keeper to boot!! I would be careful about calling her strange as one weekend you may follow the yard sale signs home to find all of the tackletorium up for sale on the front lawn!!![]()
**I do agree that Walleye and Cats are some of the best eating fish around. I have a hard time releasing many of em because they eat so good. I let the little uns go to grow up some though. **
oops ![]()
If someone else is doing the cooking and cleaning I’ll take fish sticks.[;)] Preferably Van Dekamps.
