Im not debating the carp/non carp issue..but I did witnesses a carp going after a good sized spinner bait. It followed it right to the boat 3x… Again.. am NOT saying that your seeing carp. It just makes me believe that a BIG carp would possibly chase a small trout.
It’d be a different story if there was carp where I was fishing…
I repeat… I am not debating what your seeing. I have no reason not to believe you. I was simply sharing a story that had to do with a carp chasing something that I never thought it would. I am not giving you a hard time. Good luck!

Key with the Manjo - and most many other baits - is HOW you fish them.
Make it BE food, or look like food, and if the fish are hungry - they’ll bite. Lots of cranks, it’s the pause that triggers.
Bit browns don’t get big cuz they’re stupid oafs. Minimal expenditure, maximum reward, maybe?

I’ve had good luck with browns using Blue Fox spinners. Silver is my favorite, but gold is a close second. Surprisingly just recently I caught some pretty nice sized browns on a white curly tail jig.
If all else fails, throw on a piece of bread.

baby bass- since you can’t use the real thing in Utah get a few baby bass lures from 2 - 8 inches.

Save yourself the trouble of trying to catch the mice with peanut butter (or anything else for that matter) - - Just go to Petco, that’s what I do. When they ask you what you’re feeding and you tell them fish, they kinda look at you a little sideways.

I like the larger ones at the link you provided, but they are expensive and sold out. I believe the lure should cost less than the boat. To catch big fish, use big lures. The one I used was only medium sized, but I believe what makes it work is practice swimming it different ways at different retrieve speeds while watching it in a local clear water pond. I can make it look alive and very tempting to predatory fish by swimming up and down and around rocks or give it a injured behavior. Sometimes the best lure is the one that you can make work well by knowing the action you impart onto it with your techniques. I have a lot of lures and one of them catches the most fish for that reason though I spend most of the time trying out new ones.

The only time I ever cat h a big one is when they have no idea I am there, or that they are being fished for. I’m not the greatest fisherman, really, but the fact that you have seen them means they probably can see you.
If you only see them following baits, that’s different, of course. But I once actually spent an hour sneaking up on a huge bass at Holmes Creek that was swimming about in plain sight. I mean like a deer, I stalked her., waiting until she swam out of sight, then making 5 yards and freezing as she cruised by, finally casting awkwardly from being a tree with a huge crawler, which she ignored, picked up by the tail, dropped, looked at fussed over, ignored, came back to, nudged and finally took. Then I fought a good 20" bass on 6 lb test and finally released her.
That’s what it’s gonna take. That and a big dead chub, or a jointed rainbow rapala, or a mouse, and a predawn insertion at a hands and knees crawl.
BTW, you can dropshot an actual minnow and make it do funky, struggly looking things.

I agree with the cliffinator – 'cept I still find a 3" gulp to be pretty large.
Some of the biggest browns I’ve ever caught have come from using either nymphs or san juan worms.
If a big fish is hungry, it isn’t going to pass up a meal – even if it’s small. Get it in front of it’s face, with the correct presentation, and it shouldn’t matter.
I’d toss a hopper with a nymph dropper below it.
