We will be looking for the package. The lake is almost crystal clear. We went there on Sunday afternoon without tubes (darn) but got the ok from the lifegaurd there. Sean hooked his first ever cat on some green powerbait, but lost it cause didnāt set the hook. oh well. But he wants to go back Tues, with tubes.
A good clean bait for those little lakes is a piece of hot dog. I have found the chicken or turkey ones to be better than beefā¦or pork. Maybe Kosher catfish. Also, try sprinkling a little garlic powder on some of the pieces and keep them separate in another plastic bag. Kitties love garlicā¦ sometimes. Cut the weiners lengthwiseā¦first in half, and then cut the halves into quartersā¦so you end up with four long strips. Cut the strips into anything from a half inch to two inchesā¦depending on the size of the fish and the type and size hook you are using. Also, donāt be surprised if you get bass or bluegill on the weiners. Good all American fish like hotdogs too.
Hey TD, When we go to Lake Balboa, there is such a variety of baits being used with much success. Depending on what people are trying for. That lake has alot of Tilapia, Bluegills, Cats and Bugle mouth Bass. There are people right and left using any Oscar Meyer product that they can get ahold of. But that sounds like a bunch of bologna do me.
There was a lady there the other day using Luis Rich sliced turkey. She would break off just a small piece, about the size of a quarter, and carefully put it on her tiny 2/0 hook,40#test line, and standard deep sea pole. Seconds later she would have a giant bluegill about half the size of your standard computer mouse. Then tubeNtoo would take a small piece of crawler on a #16 baithook, 2# test and a standard ice fishing pole and nab himself a little tilapia big enough to fill a 9"plate. Just need to find the happy medium.
