I didn’t put them on together Kent. Am I getting old and missing an inside joke there??? The burger is actually best rolled along the bottom in a stream and the mallows fished through the ice. By the way, what ever happened to using rock rollers. That was the best bait I ever used. I havn’t seen them sold commercially for years. Oh well.

Most of the previous discussion has focused on how it is possible to use nightcrawlers when ice fishing in the winter. No one has talked about why we don’t use mealworms and wax worms in the summer. I suspect that it has a lot to do with the fact that summer fishing usually involves a lot more action–casting long distances and retrieving at relatively fast speeds. I figure that’s why many people don’t use meal worms–and especially wax worms–in the summer. They fall apart or fall off the hook too easily. Am I right?
I have used both in the soft-water months and they work fine. Wax worms will stay on a hook about the same as a night crawler. Meal worms are softer and work better vertically jigged.
