Wall Eye of Deercreek..

Bassrods is “sitting it out” until we get the new forum stabilized. He is “computer challenged” and cannot deal with the temporary glitches.

I am reasonably sure they were pulling either crawler harnesses or plastics…using the Mojo rock hopper weights.

You can use any kind of bottom bouncer or Lindy rig that lets you tick over the tops of the rocks, with your favorite crawler rig or plastic. One of the big keys is finding the fish and then fishing them at the right speed. They will hit a wide range of colors but some days seem to prefer one over the other.

**Last week’s pattern may be completely different this week. As the fish get ready for the spawn they will move to different areas and act different. **

Last week they got mostly larger fish…over 25". Those were all females, because males seldom get that large. That tells me that they were catching prespawn females, but that the fish may now be moving toward the river mouth rather than still actively feeding around the edges of the lake. Once they get in a spawn mode, you will catch mostly smaller and more aggressive males.

In about another month, the post spawn period will begin and there will be a lot more active walleye around the lake. But, with the lower water, we will have to find new hot spots. The “flats” at the east end of the lake, where most of the best post spawn fishing usually takes place, is high and dry. Unless the walleyes wear tennis shoes this year they will not be there.

Thanks Tubes..
Yeah I figured out the females part. They must be spawning on or near the rip rap if he catching them on the dam end. Maybe laying up in deeper water during the day and going shallow at night to spawn. Anyway..

I’ll holler next time I head down the hill to Deer Creek, maybe we can hook-up.

Why not? What difference could it make?
Location is the more important factor. You don’t have to tell everyone exactly where you are fishing, but what you’re using and depth doesn’t compromise your fishing in any way. That’s why I quit posting on this board. I always gave info on what was working for me and usually what depth. And often times, the location.
But too many folks just use this as a bragging board. WOO HOO look at me I caught fish. Without giving any info on what is working. That doesn’t do anyone any good. So what’s the point? I always thought that this board was for helping other fishermen and fisherwomen to catch more fish. And to try to get more young folks to enjoy the fishing experience. It was that way in the beginning. Then it went downhill. Too many folks just want to show off fish and not help their fellow anglers.
There are probably four or five different presentations that will work for eyes at DC right now. Some will catch bigger fish and some will catch more smaller fish. So what does it hurt to give out basic info?

I agree

your right on bob. whats funny is that fish they havested was ripe. and not on her way out. she could see good enouff to hit his lure and looks realy healthy. ??? not at all like it was on its way out.

Don’t get all butt-hurt about it. Sending the man a pm is a good idea for two reasons. 1. He can assume that if they take the trouble to send him a pm they are members and not merely lurkers. 2. He can give out information as specific as he is comfortable with. If you want to give out a million details, that’s on you. Just because a guy doesn’t give out as much information as you doesn’t mean he is just bragging.[crazy]

I agree with you. You don’t have to post every detail about a successful trip. If someone less experienced wants more info then that is what the pm function is for. I have responded with more detail in pm’s to every person that has asked me a ?. I believe if they are going to go through the trouble to bug you then it is worth something. I will not ALWAYS tell the whole stroy but i will give you a very good idea of where to start.[;)]

I agree with Bob totally, giving out info for walleyes will not hurt a thing on any lake in this state because not enough people in this state fish for them and not enough of them are caught to do any real damage to the population.
how many of you guys have caught limits of walleye on your trips out ??? later chuck

right on the money chuck. i wish moore people would fish eyes and catch limmits. but the truth of the mater is walleyes move around alot. its impossible to hurt any poppulation on any body of water they swim in here in utah. its just never going to happen. this is what us old hard walleye hunters know so we share what we know we share location depth and pressentations that are working. now some other types of fish couldnt handle the added pressure. like big lakers! shhhhhhh!

"But too many folks just use this as a bragging board. WOO HOO look at me I caught fish. Without giving any info on what is working. That doesn’t do anyone any good. So what’s the point? I always thought that this board was for helping other fishermen and fisherwomen to catch more fish. "

Now that comment is funny. I actually come on here to look at pic’s. If someone wants to “brag” a little, more power to 'em.

The only thing that make a site go “down hill” is when people critisize others “reports”.

I don’t expect anyone to give out info. (unless they want to)

Hey Bassrods, I just now looked at your pics, nice fish.
one question, in the second pic, are you setting over a rock pile vertical jigging ?? from the looks of the other bank I think you might be pretty close to the one I set on.

Since your so adamant about sharing the wealth, how about some pointers on DC walleye? If you want this board to change it may start with you. Results…not excuses.

I just got on this page and seen your post…

I can tell you know your fish and can see how the eyes are sink in and cloudy, like I said she was BLIND and in less then one foot of water she took a glup minnow that was on her nose for about a min. or so…

what do you want to know about D.C. walleye ??
they should be spawning right now. fish the RR side on the wind blown points. I like using a dark green 4" twister tail 1\4oz. leadhead or sassy shads.
later chuck

she is blind as heck in 1 eye. no question. she still looked pritty ripe in the first pic. utwalleye and myself have been pounding the eyes at dc for about 20 yrs now. like the way you hit nelle for bass. there are many ways to catch the dc eyes. for those who dont know and would like to. ask anything ill tell ya what i know. i love to share about eyes. jigs. lindy rigs. harnesses. cranks. shallow in low light deeper in bright light. troll faster than you think you should. that right their is huge at dc with cranks and bouncers. jig head and whole crawler if your realy on top of them. simple. hardest thing is to not give up. ive had 100s of skunked days at dc dont think i always get them. even now after so long. eyes move around they are very sensitive to presure changes so it happends to the best moore than we like. ken

No one said she was not full of eggs just like the others we let go, but if a fish is blind and not on catch and release water I will keep it and any time but the spawn I would have kepted more then the one we did…
And she was not in as good of shape as she should have been…

We was after bass and found the eyes so we had fun…

Rock on Walleye Bob! This isn’t the bragging board.

I am going to try DC on friday. Now that school is out for the summer. I have caught eyes there on accident before but I would like to target them this trip. ANY tips would be appreciated. I have a bottom bouncer but havent the foggiest how to use it. I have downriggers etc.

I could tell you the exact spot where I caught fish and what I used and tommorow you would probably not catch anything. There is no secret too fishing.

Nice Chuck, no secrets, that still does not mean a successful Walleye day, they think we all catch limits far and in between. The Walleye is a Gypsy of fish always traveling and looking for food.
