On that same thought, for some reason there are many Kitties in that lake with the name P A T. All of them sporting a pierced lip.
Go figure.
A lot of them with cleft palates and sore necks (from hooksets) too. All part of the ongoing catfish reeducation program. Some of them get smart. Others never seem to learn. Just like people.
It’s funny you make that statement. Over the years TubeBabe and I have lost a few big kitties, usually to rocks or heavy cover. We joke about them going around to the other cats and showing off their new lip ornaments,and creating a new fad among the whiskery tribe.
What’s the biggest kitty you’ve hauled out of UL? Do you happen to have a pic of that bruiser?
I found some open water that I had to work to get to. Not the case anymore! The whole lake appears open (At least the west side. I can’t see any ice.
I caught 3 kitties, 23", 23", and 25" So nothing too big (For Utah Lake) but it was nice to get out on open water and have some kitties drag me around again! I caught them 2 weeks ago (Feb 20th).. on Grantsville Carp minnows 
So, I guess, there is a slight chance I was the first angler to pull kitties out of the open water for 2009. The pleasure was all mine. I backed the tube up onto the ice and gave it a few good breaks, and a couple of good spits to let the ice kings know that I am serious.. it’s time for the ice to leave.. . Looks like Mother nature took me seriously 
What’s the biggest kitty you’ve hauled out of UL? Do you happen to have a pic of that bruiser?
The biggest I have brought “to touch” bottomed out a scale at 24 pounds, with a bit to spare. No certified weight. No picture either. That was in the olden days when I seldom carried a camera and the fish went home with the old guy I was fishing with.
The biggest I have a picture of…from Utah Lake…is a healthy 12 pound female from the Lindon area. It was 32 inches long. I have released a few daddy cats that were a bit longer (and skinnier) and were not weighed. I seldom keep cats over about 5 or 6 pounds and the bigger ones are usually for the smoker.
It’s nice to see that el rojo is a big kitty magnet. Also nice to see what the “vessel record” is. Hopefully, this is the year of the big cats. I caught a 12 lb carp from el rojo earlier this year.. now for the kitty!

One of my personal goals this year is to break the 20 pound mark again. Might involve some ninja work after dark. You down for some of dat?
24 lbs! That is a bruiser indeed.
The kitty in the pic is a nice one as well! I think the biggest cat I’ve caught was only about 6#. Approx. 7 or 8 years ago just bank tangling near AF harbor, I believe it was near the treatment ponds that are now locked up.

I need to see what a 20 lb cat feels like. Never caught one before.. I’ll do it. Nights shouldn’t be too bad for me to negotiate.. I am a night owl..
The question is.. are you up for it.. I mean the sun will be set and you will still have to be awake..
I’ll have to consult my handbook on political correctness. Not sure if that is a shot at seniors…or just one senior in particular. Whatever…I resemble that remark.
I will have you know that I am still more than capable of pulling an “all nighter”. But, with me that usually just means that I don’t have to get up to “download” during the night.
I have always enjoyed night fishing, especially for big kitties. A couple of years ago we had a BFT “Gorilla Floatilla” at Lincoln Beach. The full moon in June (or July) is an ideal time. Otherwise, the best time to go is whenever you can go…and there is not a “Utah Lake Zephyr” in progress.
Have your peeps contact my peeps and we will make it happen…several times. Long catfish season still ahead.
