There is a $2.00 per person walk in fee.
[crazy] I was looking at a map I purcased from the Forest Service and noticed that there is a small peice of BLM land located near the main boat ramp. I have looked at it and I am pretty sure it is the peice of ground just to the east of the Boat/Trailer parking area. I have considered parking and/or camping there to see what would happen but I havn’t done it yet. Might not be worth the trouble. Does anyone know for sure where the BLM ground is exactly, and if it goes clear to the water? The map shows it going to the road, if that is the case then who owns the ground from the road to the waterline?
Yes i do, I used to work for BLM in Pocatello and it was an issue that was discussed many many times. I wouldnt park there as it will end up in a ticket but could end up pushing the issue also. It is under an agreement with fish and game for “sportsmans” access, but under the regulations of BLM as i recall, it was/is legal to allow them to let the canal company to charge for that access. It really might be something for a whole group to talk with fish and game and blm about. I never agreed with it when i worked there and still dont. the land does touch the water when it is at full level and down some, how much I dont know for sure but there is a 40 acre parcel that is there and goes up the hill from the water. where the old fence is at is about the boundry but i dont know exactly how it lays but its a corner of the parcel that comes down to the water.
I dont know if anything really can be done if you park there or not or if u go out on the water from that point. I dont know what or how the courts, sheriff, etc will look at it but believe me I have thought of the same thing and wondered how long it would take some one to figure that out. I didnt want to get everyone in an uproar over it but, it is an issue that really should be addressed.
Groups are listened to much better by agencies than individuals not to say that individuals cant do anything about issues but, for some reason all governement agencies listen much closer to groups.
Send me a private message and ill tell you who to contact in the BLM office in pocatello to start with and he can get you in the direction.
Sorry for so long of post but needed to get this information out there. Hope this helps.
From what I heard the fee was to pay for someone to come in all the time and pick up the garbage and clean up after all the pigs I might be wrong but thats what I heard
pretty sure its not for the wire spools they are using for tables [crazy]. trash was getting bad and ppl were realy camping werever they wanted and the camping fee i have no problem with its the stupid day fee.
I agree to a point, but i dont mind a little day use fee, but the outragous camping fee, what they charge is equal to or more than you pay at Henrys Lake state park for full hook ups, power and water an one out ragous fish cleaning table. But, i do agree that the garbage etc is much better than it was, only if they could get controll of the high speed boats on the lake, and not just the skiers, to atleast be a little courteous to those that are trying to fish and are stationary on the water.
It really hasnt affected the overall fishing on Twin, just the side issues that really get to everyone i think moren than anything.
the thing that i have noticed that has improved is the hills surrounding the lake ppl use to drive trucks and atvs all over them leaving scars that are still visible in areas. I imagine that was a big liability for the land owners if someone was to get hurt. But yes the camp prices are to much in my mind. But every time i go that way its wall to wall campers i cant believe it every time i go.
Thanks for the info. It may be possible to get a group together and schedule a meeting with the appropriate officials, but I think it will open a can of worms and the folks involved would need to be committed.
I have no problem, in fact prefer that there is someone there to help keep the campers under control. I could imagine that place becoming a zoo if there were no rules or enforcement.
I just don’t like to be charged $5 a day if that road is technically a public access road to the BLM land. I would be very interested in knowing what the BLM would say if we had that discussion.
I would be willing to pay for a season pass, it is such a pain to make sure that I have a $5 bill in my pocket every time I go to the lake. It also sucks to pay $5 for a 1 or two hour fishing trip. Maybe $40 or $50 a year would be reasonable.
Went back to Twin. It is after Labor Day but the host is still there and you still pay. Plus they have closed the gate on the dam so you have to park on the boat ramp side. We were fishing the 1st lake and prefer the side opposite to the ramp. We kicked across and it was a pleasant surprise to find some really nice handsized bluegills in the middle water. It was about 15-17ft deep and no weeds. There were two ski boats and two jet skis on the water with us, but they were polite. They weren’t going all the time so it was fairly quiet, calm and nice. Fishing overall was a bit slow. We got some nice crappie too. Not a bad evening, it beat staying home and watching the news!!
