Your a sick man cat-man sick sick sick I say! LMAO
C’mon Tube dude please tell us the sealion story! Some of us out there actually enjoy your fishin stories, the places you have been in your life are very impressive, you are a fortunate man my friend. John R.[:)][:)]
**Didn’t wanna hijack the turtle thread. **
But, okay.
One of my favorite tubing/diving/beach camping spots on the Sea of Cortez is Puerto Lobos. In Spanish, lobo means wolf. It is also used to refer to sea lions. So, the place is literally “Sea Lion Port”. And there are often quite a few around the rocks there.
Puerto Lobos is a remote fishing village, at the end of about 60 miles of sandy dirt road, often requiring 4X4, especially during monsoon (rainy) season. There is no electricity or water. There is a lighthouse and a few poor fisherman’s shacks on the beach.
**The inshore rocks are full of fish. It is not uncommon to catch a hundred fish in a hundred casts…with at least 20 to 30 species represented. Sea lions like it too. **
On on tubing trip I noticed a female sea lion watching me from a distance of a hundred yards or so, with just her head out of water. On a whim, I raised my two black fins out of the water and clicked them together, simultaneously making my best imitation of a circus seal bark. The head disappeared, only to resurface in a couple of seconds as the curious sea lion came porpoising quickly in my direction.
**I have had several female and young sea lions show up and want to play while diving in the area. The big nasty males you don’t even want to be in the water with. They can bite when they think their territory is being challenged. **
But, this little lady came zooming in to within a few feet of me and made about four or five quick turns around my tube…faster than it takes to tell about it. Then, after raising her head out of water and looking me right in the eyes, from a couple of rod lengths away, she decided I wasn’t her type and took off back the way she had come.
No danger but a great encounter. I had almost the same thing happen with a river otter once. But, that is another story.
Those plaid shorts do get around [;)]! Looks like the place I almost went fishing once.
And may still go…someday…like next summer? I hear the call.
