Just get a boat… where else are you going to put your fishfinder, Aqua-VU, Temp meter, rod holders, anchor, Mooring lines, etc…
My point being, the whole greatness of tubing lies in the fact of its simplicity. Once you add a motor, you have to have a battery, and a battery box and wiring. Now that you have a battery, then you can add a multitude of equipment. Where does it end? How many trips to the water just to get started? I hae seen it happen and it’s not pretty. ‘Ya wanna go Tubin’" " Na , too much work".Too much work? I Tube for lunch sometimes. Being able to carry the whole mess is one trip is paramount for me.
Anyway perhaps this is in the spirit of a ‘Devils Advocate’ so it might promote a better understanding of how we all feel about this niche in our overall sport of Fish-chasing, Fish-Harrasing, and Fish-Eating or Fish Returning.[;)] [/reply]

I say bollocks. The whole greatness in tubing lies in the fact you ***can ***put a motor, battery, all your fishing gear on one without having to buy a boat. And as an added bonus Johnny, you can take your kickboat to a lake without a motor, battery and all your fishing gear if you want.
Either way you can still stick it all in the back of a pickup.

Like I stated this was more a ‘Devils Advocate’ thing just to get you talking. Boy did it work. Just for the record I have a motor on my Bass Boat, a motor on my Center Console and two in the Hatteras. I’m not against anything in fishing, and would gladly raise Trout and sell them to Bass fisherman if I could. I don’t really like watching those Pier fishermen snag Corbina here in SoCal or Salmon up north but I’m not a cop. I realize up there in the great white north you might run into a storm or wind at a minutes notice and a motor is handy, it also is much better for trolling. I don’t think I ever mentioned ‘real’ float tubers and "tooners. We are all fisherpeople and we all want to whack the fish and I think this is the most important thing. Really why I chimed in in the first place is my buddies have begun this trip into complicatedness and I end up waiting 30 or more minutes for them to show up on the water and then there they go. Nice seein’ ya. Then there is always the general feeling that after you have put away your stuff the you get to help carry motors, batteries, etc. I guess I’ll just Toon with my little group of ‘Finnies’ from now on, I can still troll but my legs barely fit in my Levis now. At least we can talk to each other without shouting, fish with each other without disturbing the fish and all get to the restaurant at the same time. On the other hand I can launch the skiff with a couple of buddies, make Cocktails as we fish and rock to Van Halen as we leave. Its all good…Have you seen those new Fishfinders that look like a picture of the bottom, I just got to get one of those…
No it is a simple issue you are on the water first so you get to fish a few minutes more. And than when they head back just stay out and fish for a few more minutes. That way the timing is all good, you dont have to help pack the battery and all the other crap.
Dohhh there goes my little secret.
If anyone helps me with my battery or motor, it is because they want to. I take care of my own.
One thing that does keep myself and my family off the water a little longer isn’t the motor or the batteries, it is we FF. We all take at least two rods to eliminate the chance of dropping one while putting a new spool on and to go from top to bottom by changing rods.
Being that the “average” fly rod is at least 8’6", it is tough to travel with them assembled (sure miss our van).
So, getting the boat set up might take 3 to 5 minutes, I then assemble 2 to 4 fly rods and put what fie I think I need for each. I usually got with a Floating line with a long leader for deep nymphing, an Intermediate for the ones just below the surface, a TYPE II if they are down half way and a DEPTH CHARGE or TYPE VII to get to the bottom fast. No reel changing, just grab a rod.
I do this with and with out a motor. A little more thought gets put into it. where spinning it is which lure, bait or jig with a different rod for the feel.
Fly fishing it is LINES, LINES and more LINES. LOL
I am still not sold on the “Fishing Buddies”
I like the big screen with maybe a GPS (she says LOL, like I know how the darn things even work)…color would be awesome, and all I do is mount it to the universal plate for the monitor and screw the transmitter to the tube. Ready for ANY BOAT and the tiny rechargeable battery and I am good for hours and days of use.
The food and beer is in the truck. I’m the first one back…trust me.
… I guess you could say I was doing the DA thing myself but was mainly get back to the original question.. so to speak..
… as you know I am limited of what I have and dont have.. and I am not sure that I am ready to move up to far.. or too fast.. I do keep looking at toons like the one tn2 had on our last trip to corona.. I like the looks of that thing and can see a use for it on the water.. the next biggest thing I would be looking at would be a fish finder of some sort.. but that will be after I make the time to trick out the tube I have now..
… speaking of finners.. when are we all getting out on the water again.. I had to be up early this morning and the cool air reminded me of that last trip.. [:)]

…certain things hold absolutely true in this sport.. one.. we all enjoy being on the water doing our best to figure out the fish..
… we all have different ways of doing the same thing.. and that is what makes each angler unique even though we use the same equipment..

bendo tends to stay on the water longer than anyone.. on our trip to LN lakes tn2 had to call him like three times before he finally started kicking back in..
I will say one thing for bendo at the end of a day of fishing.. he carries a big thermos of hot coffee.. and he is willing to share it with whoever wants a cup.. and I can tell you from first hand experience his coffee not only tasted good it sure as heck warmed me up from top to bottom..

You turn the can over, pull the cover off and press in on the button underneath till green water drains. Wait ten seconds, Then set it back right side up. When the spot on the side goes from pink to white (about 8 minutes) turn the plastic cap, pop the tab and steaming hot. It is really good. Oh and don’t forget to shake before opening.

cooler means beer, beer means motor, so you can drink instead of row. Rod holder comes in handy also so you can motor back while holding beer in one hand, rod in holder and smoke in other hand thats the best reason for a motor. FG and TN2 can vouch

Being a total coffeeholic, I have found a way that I can have hot coffee anytime that I’m out and about. I acquired a large Nissan vacuum bottle several years ago. I can fill it up at night, and have coffee too hot to drink in the morning. (must have coffee when my feet hit the floor. good for motel stays)

If I’m facing a cold morning, I put several spoons of Swiss Miss in the bottle, and fill it with coffee. MMMM-good.
