Looking to do some tarpon fishing from a boat and want to know if 30 pound test with a 80 pound shock liter will do the trick.

I only fished Tarpon one time, in Costa Rica, Great Fun…Great Fish.!!
We used 25 lb. line, the fish were 100 pound kine & the line was plenty strong, I might even think you could get away with lower.

As I remember, we used a 6 foot double on the main line for body chafe, & a shorter leader of 80 lb, it held onto a few for us.
If the fish will run smaller, go with lighter line & Have a BLAST with em..!
