Between the soap and the bug spray.. I think it would be almost impossible to fish with that gear with high confidence. I can’t help but think something will still be tainted, even if it is only slightly. Why risk it?
Maybe I’m just being pessimistic… bug spray is nasty stuff.

I am definatly gonna replace the leaders and tippet…no question there. The floating line is back to normal again (4 hours of soap) but the sinking line is still just as bad as it was 4 hours ago.

It works, plus the starting fluid evaporates and doesn’t hurt the components. I use it on my baitcast reels all the time and they work fine, Not sure about your line though, I think I’d chuck it.
Oh shizzle, I forgot about DEET… [:/] FG is right DEET can ruin the fly line coating …
@ETDT - is the line cracking or flaking ? again you can try a line dressing but if the DEET stripped the coating, your line is going to slowly deteriorate and crack (which happens over time anyways) theres a few specialty lines that are DEET resistant but you may be looking at buying new line.
No flaking or cracking…yet…the floating line is very old and had 1 or 2 cracks in it before this incident.
The bug spray was 25% DEET…which means I am likely screwed.
So far the floating line is almost back to normal…I’d say if 100 were it smells like bug spray and a 0 means it does not smell anything like bug spray…it be at a 5 right now.

Gonna take the floating line out today and see how she does. I am gonna buy new tippet and leader before I go out of course. If TDT starts slayin the fish and I am not… a closed casket funeral will be held in the Uinta’s on Sunday.
