did you get any look aways hooksets?
Curt , I hooked that fish just after christmas on the 26th .
One or two “look-aways” is all. With that light 1/8 oz jig and not fishing as close to the bottom as you do at Bear Lake, look-aways were almost non-existant.
Here’s a few bows and a cutt from December…
Well you did it! Great to ya..Glad to see your fun at the berry, At least the water was hard.[sly]
Every time I went the WIND did it’s thing, So how was the wind there?, perhaps Hard water fishing is the way to go on the berry. It’s neet to see two uncles doing the ice thing, and also my Mother (moter) is fine got to laugh on that one (personal joke)[pirate]
Did you keep any bows for the pan> got to love em. What did you use to catch the big fighters on?
Do you have any BFT stickers, I need two.
and perhaps we can give hard water fishing a try. oops I said it, do not tell…Glad to see the day was a great one for you..[;)]KEEP IN TOUCH !
Coach,
There was no wind at all, all day long. Made it so that we were able to leave the heater on low. Also, there were a couple times in the tent that I was even sweating. Had to take off all layers of coats and hoodies.
We didn’t keep any fish. All went back into the water.
We caught our fish on just about anything in the tackle box. If we seen a fish come through on the sonar, we were pretty much able to catch it. It was incredible.
Yes … I do have some BFT stickers. PM me and we will hook up and I will get them to you.
Coach, give your uncle Bait_Caster a PM. I’ll bet he would be quite willing to take you out on the Berry for a day of hard water fishing.
Oh, and glad your moter is doing well.![]()
I also made it up to strawberry sat. we didn’t leave until I got off work at 7am by the time we got up there and all set up it was about 11 fished mud creek until about 4 and iced 4 cutts. two over the slot and two under. only kept one for the plate the rest released to catch another day.
that’s definitly the way to go ice fishing–with someone who already has all the stuff. Need to find me one of those!
this may be a dumb question, but in every picture, you’re holding the fish with some type of plier rod? what’s it called and where do I get one? I lost two very large fish at the berry last saturday trying to get the fat buggers through the hole. it looks like that device would help. we caught all we wanted, but i hated to lose the fattest ones before icing them. nice post.
those are called lip grippers. you can get them at sportsmans or cabelas
DP,
We call it the “lip gripper”. Technically, they are “Berkley Big Game Lip Grip 12”. Mine is the basic one and Bait_Caster’s has a built in electronic scale. They run about $25 at Walmart … $30 everywhere else.
They work fantastic to quickly get control of fish without getting cut by teath. Better on the fish … better on the fisherman.
There are other brands that make similar ones but I have tried them and don’t like them. The Berkly Big Game Lip Grip in the 12" is the one I like. They make them smaller and larger too.
I won’t go fishing without one!
[;)]Well if you were warm in the tent (what ever you call those things) I guess I could give it try (what did I say
)
About the gripper Yes there great to have I bought mine at Cabellas, I would have lost some fish with out it, It is well worth the $$ you spend for one. I’ll hook up with you on the stickers no hurry just before the spring time. [sly]
Nice report Coot. glad you and BC had a great time. Hope we have that kind of Luck when we hit the gorge this summer
