Stinky dead fish on shore

In before the lock…
to funny, me too.

Spoons,

You read my mind!

Thank you

Idaho

thanks for the post spoons, I guess I could have put it in better words like your post, my bad, just when you talk bow hunting and bow fishing together that’s not fair the same goes for dead fish, bank yankers are mostly too blame in my opinion, carp are a very hearty species that is why they thrive almost anywhere, the only way they seem too die is too throw them on dry land for more than 24 hours, my apologies too anyone that I struck wrong…

Slayer, most wild critters are “very hearty species”, with a tenacity that is tough to beat. However, that shouldn’t give us sportsmen a “pass” on thumping them without any thought to their survival. Be it a carp, a rockchuck, a coyote, or any other critter considered “trash” by the public hunter.

I watched through binos as a guy I invited to hunt varmints put the sneak on a bedded fox last year. After he got as close as he thought he could get (175 yards), he touched off a round. I saw fur fly, but the bullet hit high. Much to my amazement he packed his stuff and headed back to the truck. I passed him half way, with him telling me that he’d missed. I took me 20 minutes to find the dog laying dead…

No big deal right? After all, it was just a fox. But some of us treasure the fox, the coyote, the carp, and other critters that folks think of as “trash”. My Pops taught me to value the “outdoors” and everything it stands for. That includes every living critter…

Again, I apologize if I came across too gladed earlier, but we have an environment here in Idaho that a lot of folks would give there “left” one to experience. Please don’t take it for granted, or it could be taken away from us by those who are hiding an ugly agenda.

Words to live by Huntsman! Thank you!

Well said Huntsman and nice job Slayer owning what you said and being reasonable. I must admit I’ve never heard of C & R bow fishing but there is a lot I don’t know so am not in a position to make a judgment.

One thing I do know is that you catch more flies with honey that you can with vinegar so being civil on this forum will probably result in people getting what they came here for in the first place.

On topic, you can catch even more flies with dead carp than you can with honey.

Well said Huntsman!!! I have taught my son to value life and what the outdoors has to offer. DeeCee

I’m pretty new to bowfishing, though I’ve had dealings with carp for years. I concur with all the comments - noone wants carp stinking up the banks, especially the landowners.

They do make good bait. One of these days one’s going to land in my smoker! When bowfishings I’ve had some “shots” that released before I could land them. I’ve also seen that a few cuts or stabs don’t do these beasts in. They are pretty dang hardy!

But the bow-fishing ethics I’ve head involve being sure to puncture the airsac, so the carp will sink, not float, and serve to feed the eco-system.

I can whole-heartedly confirm that catfish like carp guts!
