STAY OFF PINEVIEW!!!!!!!

I got em’ down Kent! [;)]Just a matter of time and ice conditions.

Glad you are ok..

Hey Jason, i am tying some stuff up as we speak. As soon as i get a good amount i will mail them to ya.

Glad you made it out safe dude and very nice catch too. How far do you think the water had to drop before the shore line ice broke? It must have taken several days for the water to go down that far, so that would mean the shore line ice has had no water under it for at least a day. That is very scary to think it could have broke as someone was getting on it. Thanks for sharing.

It is surprising how much a sheet of ice will flex without breaking. I’ll bet no one noticed the dropping water conditions, meaning a space between the ice and the water, until it was very obvious.

:sunglasses:When Flycasting and I came off the ice Tuesday afternoon we noticed water both on the south side, near the highway and also on the north side where we got off the ice. I took a picture (see attached) and it was not nearly as bad as LH2 reported, but it was starting.

glad to hear ya made it off Brody! nice crappies btw.

That is exactly the place i got on the ice. When i left that is initially tried, but the ice had completely seperated under the water there. I crossed about 400’ to the west of that spot.

Glad you made it out o.k. that is some important information for any of us. Thanks

I wouldn’t have believed it if i hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. I have ice fished alot and never witnessed such a scenario to that extent.

:sunglasses:LOL, Packfan!! Man, good thing LH2 had that rope and cell phone too. Guess The Pine is out for Saturday, damnit. Guess I’m either headed to the rock or Mantua. I want some pigout perch chowder. I could make it out of some bluegills that I have left from Pelican, but it’s not quite the same without the perchies. Think I’m headed to the rock on Saturday. Anybody else going out there?

I hope that we will fit on Mantua on Saturday![;)]

:sunglasses:I think I’m headed to the rock Saturday. The perch are easier to find at Mantua often, but the overall size is better at the rock. I found them (and caught them) last year when most others that we saw all three times I went only had between 1-3 perch and maybe a trout. Hope I can find them in the same spots this year. There’s some deep muddy-bottom flats that held them last year. Hope they are in the same area’s. Good luck to you up at Mantua. Hope you spank the gils, perchies, slimers, and bass…

Thanks for the report, and glad you got off alright.Even if they get off,its a thrill to have one of those Tigers on.I get a rush even if someone else catches a Tiger on the boat.

Brody,

Thanks, I look forward to trying them out. You ought to come up here one day and shoot some coyotes.

…nice ploy![;)]

In all honesty, thanks for the info. You might have saved a life.

This was starting to happen on New Years Day. We noticed the edges had begain to buckle and water was starting to seep onto the ice.
I don’t think that there was ever a void betweed the ice and the water. The ice just kept dropping as the water levels did. It was a very slow process.
I see this happen a lot, but never to this degree of danger.

waterat and i stopped on our way back from east canyon today to check pineview and sure enough about 10ft of open water around the edges. slush forming but when you throw a rock it isnt solid.

Yeah, when I first got there, I assisted some folks off the ice. One guy was thrashing up that slick inclined ice and thrashing around like a beached whale or dolphin. I helped get all his gear up to shore and then tossed him a few rocks which he used as ice picks to get himself out. Afterwards I put on chest waders, and cleats on the wader boots. When lunkerhunter was so kind and thoughtful as to warn everyone to vacate the ice, I came up the inclined ice with just my wader boots barely wet. What a difference those cleats made!!! Caught just perch…about 25 in 40 minutes I stayed…no crappie. :frowning:

I had no idea that was you when i talked to you last night. Glad to meet you. You had it made with the cletes and waders. Next time i will wear mine.[;)]
