[:)] makes me want to change out my lower unit to a jet pump. but i don’t think a fifty horse jet would cut it .
Well, I have a 200 horse but don’t think I want to go that route as you lose something like 40% efficiency and I need that for my Tournaments. ![]()
HELP I CAN’T BREATH!!
You are killin me!!! I have an elk hunt that starts in 7 days! I would rather go after the cats instead of the elk. Any size? Any pictures?
My plan was to have my Cousin dump me in the river at Walters ferry. When I ran out of vacation time I was going to call her to come get me. She asked where I was going to get out. I told her I don’t know we will find out.
Next year I am going to do that. Ron
I’m just a ways east of lake lowell (near Wilson Ponds). All we need in this discussion is someone to the west and I think we’ve got it surrounded ![]()
Related to floating the river from Swan Falls to Brownlee, a friend and I are talking about floating the river, I in a kayak, him likely in a pontoon, and fishing for about 2 days. Is that whole stretch doable? The most I’ve done is celebration park to Hwy 45. If that whole thing is doable, we’ll have to seriously consider which part we want to do. Floating seems to go much slower when you keep stopping to fish.
Thanks to anyone with any experience in the area.
I have driven and reasearched with mapgs and google earth from Walters ferry to Weiser. It is all very doable but it will be slow in places. I floated form Payett to weiser with a float tube. It was actually about half way between. Anyway it was a TON of fun but it went faster than I expected. Gaging how far is tough. The wind is a HUGE factor.
Some areas are a little faster and shallow. My plan was to camp on the islands. I have maps with ownership so I don’t stay on the NFWR islands. I also have GPS locations of catfish surveys that have been done over the years. One of the areas I have on GPS had over 50 fish caught on that survey in a 50 yard stretch.
For a two day trip only I would look at the area from Boise WMA to weiser. I think if I remember right that float is about 30 miles. That was my original trip I had planned for this year but every time I wanted to do it in June the wind was blowing 30+ miles an hour.
My uncle lives on Lone Star in Nampa. I can’t quite see the lake from his house but I don’t have to go far to see it. Ron
Most of the Snake in SW Idaho has a ramp about every 5-10 miles. That’s all I usually fish. I run upstream and drift back down. That way my truck/trailer is always downstream. It usually takes 4-5 hours. I used to do this in a 16’ Lowes Roughneck with a 60/40 jet, and could have done it with less horsepower. You just need a lighter boat.
Some of the mile markers are (these are miles from the junction of the Snake and Columbia). As you can see, most of these towns are a fairly long float apart - if you do much fishing.
Farewell Bend -333
Weiser - 351
Payette - 365
Ontario - 370
Nyssa - 385
Adrian - 402
Homedale - 415
Marsing - 420
Walter’s Ferry - 442
Swan Falls - 457
Grandview - 487
Strike Dam - 503
Hammett - 529
Glenn’s Ferry - 540
Etc, etc.
American Falls Dam is mile 714, so I’ve only got 381 miles to fish from Farewell Bend to American Falls. Since I’m approaching my 79th birthday I guess I better get busy.
Well, you got me by ten years as I’m rapidly approaching my 69th.
I just hope I’m still doing this in ten years.![]()
Ya just need one of each Bob!
Two boats or two lower units!
[fishin] go get um smartweed !
Thanks for the help.
The one time I kayaked the Snake I found that I can go up stream (or could that day) but it takes a little work. Much easier to go with a friend and ferry the boats. I’m kind of leaning towards swan falls down, just because I know the canyon is gorgeous there by celebration park. Maybe take out somewhere along map rock road. It’s a couple of weeks away at the earliest so I have time to decide. Several times. Then once more on the day of the trip [fishin]
When I looked at that section it looked like it had some rough water in spots. I would not call it white water but it was more than just current. With the right pontoon I think it would be fine. With a kayak I don’t think it would be an issue. Ron
