Smitty Sled

I just discovered the smity sled, decided to build it. It is heavy, at least mine is a bit. However, because it is on ski’s it is effortless to pull. I built one because I can’t fit a decent sled in my van and have room for the boys. Smity is perfect, I added an all thread close to the bottom to help prevent the bottom from spreading apart. I use some wing nuts to put it on. No tools needed, packs down to nothing, very sturdy. I’m gonna redo my rope so it doesn’t go across the skis, I was pleasantly suprised at how well it worked. I put an 8" gas auger, 4 man tent, 3 chairs, big buddy heater, 6 bottles of propane, shovel, tackle box, 6 ice rods. My sled is 2’6" wide, by 4’, I used 2X10’s for my blocks on the ski’s. All I can say is I like it works.

I like my Smitty also, it has reduced the effort required to haul my gear.

Thanks to SkunkedAgain and others, I just finished building a Smitty, and tested in the back yard. It seemed to pull much easier (loaded w/tent, auger etc,) now I need to put it to the true test.
Thanks to all …

Congratulations they are nice and do pull easier in this deep snow. Only problem for me is now I think I can take more stuff with me so it’s still heavy to pull, but it’s kind of nice to have the right stuff to stay warm while you’re out fishing. Enjoy and if you get a chance post some pictures. Later J
