I have a lowrance color. My brother in law has the vexlar. I can drop my transducer down the hole and tell immediately how deep the water is down to 1/10th of a foot. he cannot. However, he loves his. He says that between him and I, its like the Matrix. All I see is a mess, he sees blond, brunette…
The one advantage I like with the Lowrance over the Vexlar is that the screen gives me about a 15 second history. If I look away for a minute and a fish flashes through my screen, I can see that. The vexlar only shows true time. There is no screen that scrolls showing a small history.
On my Lowrance I consider the rightmost vertical column of pixels to be real time. Same sonar technology doing the detection, just a different method of displaying the info. Everything left of that first vertical column is the History that most flashers don’t provide. I like the history function.
Flasher = real time, to the millisecond. I can watch my jig move up and see exactly when a fish is moving in on my jig. I can watch them come up and even chase it down seconds before the hit. Flasher all the way for ice fishing.
I see the same thing both on my Lowrance and my Marcum. The processing/display speed difference is less than one can react to, so I see it as a nonissue.
