Bobbers and jigs. Drifting yarn balls, eggs, shrimp, or maybe even swinging spoons might get you into the fish. Sure did get cold up here in a hurry… Even had an afternoon blizzard yesterday.
Got the old skunkaroo on Saturday fishing between town and N. Fork. 2 fer 3 today “sunday” fishing below north fork. Water clarity was much better this weekend than last.
thanks for the info. keep the reports coming
I was only able to get out on Sunday hooked four landed 2 fishing below N. Fork… would have been 4-4 but my netter knocked 2 fish off. Fresh cured eggs were the hot ticket.
SteelHeadKid,
I love the avatar. Never seen that stuff above Ellis or the below. Smiles.
Thank you.

P.S
Do not get mad. Nothing beats Salmon Country. It really is Gods Country!
Went out this morning and hooked 2. Both were within 10 minutes of Salmon. One below and one just above. Got them both on a black marabou jig tipped with shrimp. The fish may be few in numbers, but the ones we have been picking up are all nicer fish. Hopefully will continue like this through the winter.
Went just below shoup yesterday, banged out 3 keepers in an hour and a half and left. Two decent fish and one of the smallest hens I’ve ever caught in my life. Eggs from last weekends hen hung under a float were the hot ticket.
One of my friends that fished with me on the Salmon a week ago stayed on through the week. I guess he caught two more.
He ran into someone that lived up there who showed him how to rig and run a line under a float. He is from the SLC area. I was wondering if it was one of the guys on here that helped him out. ??
Fished today 5 miles or so below N. Fork hooked 3, killed 2..
First I would like to say hello to all of you here. I’ve been checking this thread out for about a week now and decided to post.
I’ve been out quite a bit myself lately. Been doing good almost every spot I try between Salmon and N. Fork. Also caught a few upstream and have heard/seen a few caught even up as far as the Pahsimeroi R. , but have had most of mine still in sec. 16 or just above Salmon. Hole hopping a lot to find an undisturbed hole has been key, but if there are a lot of people out then I will work a hole for some time. The past few times I’ve been out I’ve at least been hooking 2-5 fish, or at least landing 1-2 each time so I can’t complain too much.

P.S. the picture is of 2 - 24" fish I killed on Wednesday. Also caught a nice 33" natty that day as well.
Finally got up this week to chase some steelies. Fished half the day Friday (my son and myself) and all day Saturday (son, self and joined by a friend) downstream of Salmon. Total tally for the trip was as follows…
3 Suckers
2 Bull Trout
5 Cutts
2 Sqawfish
2 Whitefish
2 Native Steelhead
1 Hatchery Hen.
Weather was all over the place but a great trip. Son’s first steelhead trip has him hooked! We will be back in the spring.
BiltZfish,
Welcome abroad!! 1st Post. That is a start.
It is always nice to hear or in this case read. About, Salmon Country.
Thanx

Thanks for the Welcome Idaho!
Went out again today and yesterday… Yesterday went 1 for 4 on steel all upstream of Salmon, farthest fish on upstream was in Elk Bend. I’ve been hearing of fish farther up being caught though. Today did the same until we got closer to Salmon. Quite a bit more people out today and couldn’t quite hole hop the way we planned. Went downstream for a bit landed 1 and lost at least 1 other. Talked to a few others today and heard of a few, but not much below N. Fork. Been primarily float fishing spawn and jigs, both taking fish. I’m gonna try upstream here harder tomorrow.

Welcome to the site! Thanks for contributing. Looking forward to more posts.
Floated Carmen to Tower Saturday and we hooked 7 and landed 5. 3 keepers and 2 natives. Was a good day to be on the river. Only fished a couple hours yesterday and didn’t have a bite.
How are you guys able to get up there to fish so much? Do y’all live in Salmon? If so, I’m envious.
Are there places you can make a living over that way? I live in Rexburg and wish I could go as much as you guys!
I got an odd job and can go out quite often. [;)]
Well, tried closer today around Ellis and saw 1 fish caught, but nothing for me. Didn’t try any 1 spot long. Gonna give it longer and probably downstream more again tomorrow.

I have lived in Salmon for just over 2 years now and absolutely love it here.
I’ll be headed up that way either tomorrow or this evening. Just looking for a real general bit of advice here. Above North Fork or below is better right now? PM is great if you prefer. Thanks.
We have been doing well enough above North Fork not to go down that far. It really hasn’t been necessary the last few weeks. I am sure there are plenty of fish down lower, I just prefer a less crowded environment. I will make a few trips down after this weekend once the crowds leave as I love it down in that canyon.
