Hey TD,
No problem with the strap rotating if you place it under the velcro strap to the right or left of the stripping basket.
Hey TD,

That should get the job done. I have used those velcro strips as anchor points myself. Every craft has a different setup so you canât always count on something being where you need it.
Would like to have a pic for the file when you get it put together.
Hi TD,
For your reference.
Would you prefer the picture shot from a different angle?
My personal prediction is that your holders are not going to hold up under the stress and stretching of heavy use. The walls of the material are not rigid enoughâŠunless you put some kind of reinforcing wrap (white duct tape) around them to keep them from overflexing. I am also proposing that you should make the holders longerâŠto reach up near the handles, for extra stability. I envision a boat wake making your craft ârock and rollââŠand one of the rods popping out and sinking. Disaster. I hope I am wrong.
While that is an innovative design, I will suggest that you think more along the lines of the rigid tube (PVC or aluminum) concept.
Is there a pond or pool somewhere that you can give them a âfield testâ before taking them out fishing? I have learned the hard way that theory and reality do not always agree. In fact, I have come close to losing a couple of rods with some of my experiments too. Donât want to have to read about that on this board.
Longer tubing is definately an option. Another thought to protect my investment is to tether the poles to my tube. Nothing is ever final, even here in Mickey Mouse Land.
Hey, Scott, we would love to see the pic.
Good luck on the move. And, how about registering and logging in on our little playroom? Always room for one more creative fisherman.
Hey TubeDude,
This contraption works. (Didnât like the vertical positioning of typical rod holder). Two pieces of 1ÂŒâ PVC, an end cap and a 45Âș union makes up the rod holder. Also affixed a piece of Velcro to the angle union. Can also reverse the position of the rod holder so that it faces forward in case one wanted to sit back and wait for a strike. This probably wouldnât work for you since you carry at least 4 to 5 rods.
Hey, DR, that looks highly functional. if it gets the job done, is out of the way, and keeps your rods safe, thatâs what counts.
As you correctly surmise, it would not work as well for multiple rods, but for only a couple, it looks like a good design.
That would also be a good forward-facing designâŠboth for fishing and for retying or baiting up. I do not do much trolling or bottom dragging with bait, but the halibut guys often rig a forward slanting tube while drifting live bait.
We got a lot of creativity on this board.
