Ririe Updates ???

Has anyone fish Ririe lately? Was wondering how if any early koks or perch were being caught. Thinking about heading that way this weekend if the wind allows. Is Blacktail still open to launch and is there enough water to launch there?

theres enough water to launch at blacktail just no dock.

Thanks, now if the weather will corporate.

Why have they taken so much water out of Ririe? The Post Register says there’s only 54% in the lake. Are they working on the dam?

Not that I know of. Last I heard from the guy who runs the dam. Was that he had to make room for next year. Theure expecting another large snow pack year. Riries a flood control reservoir. So if it’s not low enough and we get a high runoff we’re screwed. Every year they drop it like this.

Well finally made it to Ririe to try for perch and koks. The wind was blowing to hard to get down to the koks and couldn’t find the perch. The plan was to use hardware tactics on open water. The koks we found were at 45ft and the wind was pushing us about 8 mph. With 1.5 oz of lead, we still couldn’t get only about 25-30 ft down.

They were hammering the trout at Blacktail. They appeared to be 1 - 1.5 lbs.

Was still a nice day to be out. Wished I had my thermometer with me to get a water temp.

Good to hear you got into the kokes, was there any size to them? Did you have a fish finder?

I used my Marcum LX-9 with the open water transducer. We found a lot of large schools suspended at 45 -60 ft. At times it turned the screen red in that range. They were in 80-100 ft of water. As far as catching, we couldn’t get down to them since the wind was blowing and no down riggers. Waiting for ice, then I will return!

Well good to hear that the water level is normal for this time of year. I looked at the papers report and thought that 53% full was lower than usual. Thanks for set me straight MabeyFisher.

The gate to Blacktai is locked for the season . Seems a little early. Won’t freeze for a month .

The gates were not locked Sunday. I wished they would have been, It would have saved me some boat fuel. But the boat ride wasn’t bad.

Oh, I just figured if you had a finder it would have the water temp but a Marcum LX-9 doesn’t have water temps I guess. I’ve had some luck using those banana weights to get down really deep but it would take some that are 3 oz bigger. I have also used pink Buzz Bombs to get that deep while vertical jigging for the kokes.

They lock the gates because it’s a federal wintering habitat for big game. The snow levels are not considered.

They locked the gate Monday and opened it back up today until November 30 .
