I am in the same place as you. Got to be a 4x4. Natural doesn’t have the horsepower of gas. Pulling a couple of trailers.
I know when my Suzuki dies, I will buy a Hybrid. Get 40 to 50 miles on one charge…I only work 12 miles away.
You guys should look into CNG conversion kits. There are some outrageous price tags out there ($8-12K), but also relatively cheaper kits $2-3K.
You’ll be happy to know ghevy and dodge are both coming out with bi fuel trucks this year, In 4x4 club cabs with full warranty. You can also look at cngutah.com and talk to derek . they specialize in the cng vehicles (thats all they sale) They do get full size 4x4’s quite often. They buy them at autions all over the US. The 4x4’s generally come from forest service and mountain comunity gov. vehicles. I have had good luck with them, And consider them honest and straight forward. You useually pay a little more for cng auto’s , but you recover the price difference fast with fuel cost savings.
I did a little more research and here’s what I found. New cheve’s (several models ) come in 4 and 2 wd reg, or clud cab, swb,or lwb. The 2012 cost about $11000 more for the option. That means based on gas @ 3.50 gal, cng @ $1.50 and drivig an average 20,000 per year it will take about 3 1/2 years to recover the $11000. (saves about 3200 per year @ 13 mpg) This can very based on the amount you drive, actual mpg, ( I based it on the 1 ton club cab 4x4 model) If payments are a concern , consider that based on the above you save arround 300 per month.
I drive a 1999 cheve c 2500 And for my tax reasons last year found I saved about 4500 dollars. I drive alot of miles however. 30,000 last year. And that does’nt count the tax exemption you get. $2500. They are also much cleaner and easier on the engine.
I’m not a salesman, But just offering some facts.
They also have diesel bifuels that can give you about 50 mph on deisel in a full size cummings dodge. I have actually sen several 18 wheelers with conversions. Hope this helps you
P.S. Use caution if you have a conversion done aftermarket, Some of the less expensive ones will throw a conversion on anything. However you need to make sure your vehicle has the hardened valves in it , or you can have issues. Some of the older vehicles don’t have the hardened valves in them.
Thanks for the info Lonnie but that is way out of my price range. I usually buy my trucks when they are 8 years old or so depending on the cost. Sounds like I’ll have to buy one even older if the higher cost holds up on older CNG trucks. I’m glad to hear they are making CNG 4x4 trucks from the factory, that give me some hope that I’ll be about to find one. I’ll take a look at that web site you listed, thanks again.
IF YOU KEEP AN EYE ON THAT CNGUTAH.COM SITE , OR CALL THEM AND TALK TO DEREK, tHE 4X4’S THEY GET ARE GENERALLY IN THE 5-10 YEAR OLD FOR CLUB CABS OR SINGLE’ AND THEY USUALLY SAL THEM IN THE 12-18,000 RANGE. THEY USUALLY COME WITH UNDER 100,000 MILES
It was May of 2012 when I started this thread and now reading back on the price per barrel of oil then and now it is about the same but the price per gallon of gas has dropped below $3 per gal and in Ogden Utah, today I saw it below $2.90 per gal
. Hope it stays low[:/] and goes lower.
It must be “demand”. I have always heard that diesel was supposed to be cheaper to refine and yet over the years have seen the price difference between gasoline and diesel steadily grow.
Of all the reasons I went the way of diesel in 2008, the only one that pertains now is that it will tow my fiver and quad all day long without even a whisper, and I do get a little bit better mileage than I did with gasoline in the motorhomes I had.
I figure Utah suffers from dyslexia. Was up in Idaho (which is usually higher on the gas) and it was $2.79. Get back to Utah (with the refineries) and it is $2.97.
Utah once reported they are the last to drop their prices because they are the last to raise them!!! I guess they want their money’s worth ![]()
Query: Does a dyslexic see himself as less dyxic?
Since Maverik came out with their Black card, I’m getting a .06 discount per gallon, so in Ogden I’m paying $2.89 a gallon. I think it is even cheaper in SLC but if that is still the price in Idaho, it would be .10 a gal cheaper[crazy]. I wonder what the price per gal of reg is in Wyo?[:/]
Be grateful, your looking at close to 8 bucks a gallon here where we live, and that’s for the low grade stuff
County taxes have a lot to do with it, Bob. That’s why gas is always higher in Davis County than Weber.
Ah so! Vehly interesting.
Sounds like Germany is an expensive place to live. Have you and the wife got settled in yet?
Welcome too the European Union when things are more expensive there then the US.
[:P]
I know I lived here before, no big deal just need to get used to it again. When I left gas was about 6,50 a gallon last time. At least most people know how to drive here!
Oh true. Unless they drank vodka like a fish then there is a problem
.
Here is a website that could help you with saving a little in gas money especially while traveling and it’s just off the free way close by. Usually when I hit down south by Utah lake I take the exit by Lehi high school and that place is always one of the cheapest in the state some how [crazy].
