great tip and i like your analogy of a steelhead bight feeling like a rubber band contracting i would have to say about 90 % of steelhead i have hooked have felt that way but every once in a while i will get a hit that is just brutal like damn neer rip the rod out of your hand. ive also had a couple just hang up like they were snagged but the braided line let me feel that it was just a little different than bottom. we will see how the maxima plays out this spring.
Yup theres definatly those “no brainer” bites and the rocks that turn into fish.
Wow I learned a lot from that tip!! 1st major thing I do wrong is have too much weight! So i dont think i could ever have picked out the plusing part, when its constantly draging on the bottom! Thanks a ton steelheadkid!
Has anyone ever heard of or used troutbeads?? I found them on www.troutbeads.com after a guy told me about them. They come in different colors and represent a egg pattern… From what i read a lot of people use them for steelheads. And was wondering if any of you use them?
I’ve used them, so far haven’t caught any steelhead yet, (but I don’t blame the beads for that!), but I’m excited to use them this spring. They’re killer for trout though, I can say that for sure.
you talking about the set up were you put the bead up a couple inches from your hook?
I just ordered some. Will let you know how they work in a few weeks.
i have used just regular old plastic beads. they seem to work well. but i imagine the troutbeads would work better they say that they drift like a natural egg.
I believe there was a thread on this exact topic of troutbeads last year, or maybe the year before around this time. If you can find the thread in the archives I’m sure it would have more info.
It was during the last fall Steelhead season it was discussed.
Sweet found the old forms. I Think i’m going to try them out. Wouldn’t hurt.
