Drove by this afternoon, there is ice in patches from the narrows back. In patches is the key phase. I’d think it will be good by this weekend. I don’t think it got above freezing up there today.

Drove by last night on my way up to Liberty and saw the same thing everyone else saw. Some ice with lots of open water in the narrows and the middle of the lake. The temperatures were in the single digits in the Liberty/North Fork area when I left this morning. If the forecast is correct for the rest of the week there’s a good chance I’ll be up there on Sunday morning.

Where do you ussualy fish on Pineview. I have personally fished all over the place but we only ever seem to find little perch? We would love to get into some crappie but never can. Any suggestions.

My suggestion: Rub your lucky rabbits feet together and pray to the almighty god of fishing. That’s your best bet. 😆

I happened to get into some bigger perch and crappie last year but I’m fairly certain it was just luck and perseverance. I fished the narrows and off of browning point mostly. I fished deep (45’-60’) and fished until I caught some. One day I was into the big ones immediately and left with 10 or so perch over 10" and one 11" crappie after only a couple hours. and another day I spent almost the entire day and only caught 3 crappie and two bigger perch with the biggest crappie going just over 13". There are some big ones in there but they don’t hang out with their little brothers. They’re deeper and sometimes varied in their depth in the water column.

'Preciate all the updates. Seems like it’s gonna wait it’s turn to harden up.

And THIS year ALL the BIG crappie, perch, and everyone’s uncle - is going to hang out BEYOND the marker line in the “safe from fishers” zone up by the dam/narrows.

Only the dinks will have missed the memo about the ‘safe zone’ and might be available for us anglers.

Just my dire prediction! Though it won’t keep ME off that ice, once it forms…😠

Froze except for browning point. I didn’t check the thickness due to tennis shoe. The cove just before the port ramp looked temping. 21degrees!

according to [wildlife.utah.gov/dwr](http://wildlife.utah.gov/dwr) there is 10 inches of ice on pineview. I don’t believe this

no way there is 10" anywhere on that lake. When I drove by this afternoon there was still an open spot out from Browning point. It was only 12\* when I left the valley though so it may have some safe ice soon.

Well… heres what the DWR says: \> Biologist Ben Nadolski reports fair fishing for perch. The ice is about ten inches thick. Some groups caught quite a few perch in the Narrows, on the north side of Cemetery Point and near Browning Point. Most people report a _very_ light bite for perch, so a strike indicator of some sort is helpful. Anglers are catching perch on an assortment of jigs and ice flies, but tipping the jig with perch meat or eyeballs increased the likelihood of success. Nadolski measured many fish that were 10–11 inches long, but most anglers caught a lot of small perch too. A few anglers caught crappie in The Narrows, but overall, fishing for crappie is very slow.

I really can’t believe it though. I didn’t see any people on it either time I drove past today. And there was definitely still open water out from Browning point this afternoon. Everyone please take all of these reports with a grain of salt and test the thickness of the ice before rushing out onto it.

I just read that report, there was slight capping when i went by Tuesday and doubt it could get 10 inches of ice in 2 days, I agree with chickendude test it before, i wouldn’t trust it yet.

</div>

The DWR report is totally bogus. As of last night, Pineview wasn’t even totally capped let alone covered with 10 inches of ice. The Channel 5 10 O’Clock weather report last night showed a picture taken at sunset yesterday overlooking Pineview showing open water with some ice.

I would suggest as many people as possible call the DWR (801- 538-4700) and complain about this bogus reporting. In the worst case scenario they could be putting folks in harms way or least case cause folks to drive a long way for nothing. This is not good folks; not good at all.

But don’t call until Monday; they are closed Fridays and weekends. I’ve already called Mr. Nadolski’s office (801 476-2772) and left a voice mail.

As of yesterday, Pineview was about 80% capped with plenty of OPEN water off Browning Point. I did witness two brave souls venturing out on the ice/snow on the South side near the entrance to the Narrows. They held close to the shoreline as they changed positions during my trip to Ogden. This mornings temp was 7 degrees with no wind so maybe the remaining open water capped last night??? With all the snow we got two days ago the trekking across the lake could be extremely difficult and potentially very unsafe. Personally, I’m waiting to see more folks on the ice before I test it.

drove up there this morning at 9:30 and was 10 degrees out, It was majority capped and looked like there may still be open water in spots, drove the north side of the narrows to port ramp docks and there is nowhere to park and no way you could drive to the docks, if someone decides to go be prepared to trudge through knee deep snow and be disappointed with unsafe ice and patches of open water. I would give it at least a few more days of this cold weather before going out there.
