not sure but when he uses the heavy fluoro he is normally throwing big stuff and not small tubes and what not
Headed out to pineview this morning, got on the water about 8:30 am. Tried most of my good spots and nothing until one of the spots produced a crappie and a small perch. About 2:00 pm I moved to an area that has always produced muskies and it did. I finally hooked young 20" muskie on a spinner bait. Fished multiple points in deep water and none of them produced. Overall it was a slow day for me, but I was able to relax and enjoy the day. Talked with a few bank fishermen and they indicated they had 2 real nice LMB and a decent SMB. Anyway, thinking about heading out on sunday as well, so we’ll see what happens then. Out of curiosity have you been going in the morning or late in the afternoon?
nice job on the musky! it may not be huge but they are so fun to catch. I have been going both in the mornin and in the afternoon last sunday i fished from 7am to 7pm with most of my success for the bass in the mornin and then the muskies in the afternoon. I will be up there tomorrow chasing the bass and some muskies. Spinnerbaits have been a go to for me there this year did you have very many strikes?
Per your advise I got a trolling motor and some polarized glasses.
Went to Pineview yesterday and today. Skunked yesterday. Today I saw my first muskey alive and in the water. It was a LUNKER! I couldn’t believe how big it was. My friend was driving the boat and was changing lures and not paying attention to the shore, we got within 10 feet of the shore and between the boat and the shore (2-6 feet deep) the fish came out and followed my 3 inch grub until he saw the boat then he casually swam down & disappeared in 6 feet of water. He followed my grub. When he turned I gave it a jerk and I hit his body with my jig head!
WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY!!!
And yes it’s a little hard on my ego to call it a huge success to have only 1 fish follow my lure. I’m excited because it’s progress. Six trips 30 plus hours close to $1000 in gear/tackle, lots of research and questions to BFTers and fellow fishermen is finally looking like it may lead to a fish being caught.
There are carp all over that lake. Are there muskey’s where there are carp or not?
True that! One muskie is still better than one. I was throwing crank baits most of the morning with no success. I fished jigs and drop shot rigs in deep water with no success. A couple of weeks ago the cranks were doing well. Anyway I threw the spinnerbait for the last 2 hours I was there and the only hit I got was that one muskie I was able to boat. JiggyJus10 - Sounds you’ve been bit by the bug. If your adrenaline starts going into overdrive at the sight of sizable muskie follow up…you’ve got the muskie bug. That’s how I got started. I started fishing for SMB and LMB because that is what I new. When I first moved to Utah I didn’t know anything about muskies, so fishing for SMB and LMB’s is I started to learn about them. This is where experience and time on the water starts to pay off. I have found that soon after you see them time and time again you start to pick up on their behavior. I’ve been able to pick up a few muskie just by paying attention to areas where they’ve been working the surface. Once you spot them and you can get close enough not to spook them you can usually throw something and hook. Now I’m no expert and there are many ways to catch them, but that is how I got started fishing for muskie. Anyway good luck!
Geat post. good (pics). Great smallies and tiger. I did find fishing up their for bass and muskie at the same time Is difficult as far as the line section. The leader that seems to work for me the best is called toothie critter (or somethig like that). It is a small braid steel leeder 15lb. is the smallest test I can find at sportsmans wharehouse( in the fly fishing dept.). You can tie it like mono. So to speak. No crimps and such.* It does have a memoy so you must tie it right! When you figuer it out let me know. You"ll catch a few less bass with it using it instead mono, but more with using a normal steel leader. And I never lost a muski using it. (yet!) GOOD LUCK…*
