Pimp my Float (Pontoon & Float Tube)

Great idea! I got a Scadden Pontoon last spring and am just starting to get my feet wet on it. (pun intended :face_with_tongue:) I am jazzed to get out more this spring/summer. I sold my Crestliner a couple years back and have had a hard time be shore bound. PLEASE let me know when and where this event will take place. I’d really like to be involved. I have access to a pretty good variety of ā€œattachment devicesā€ such as velcro straps, stainless steel fasteners, etc…

One question for you 'tooners… Do we need to register our boats if we attach a motor? My freind was ticketed at East Canyon in a canoe with an electric motor for not having it registered. Let me know…

Thanks!

ffm

Yes, you have to register it once you put any motor on it.

First time on the water with my toon this weekend, with the new sonar even.

How much did you have to pay to register it? Do you go to the DMV or to the DWR? (sorry for my ignorance:blush:)

:sunglasses:Welcome to the board…and a floatation fanatic too. Yahoo.

Hey, if you wanna check out some past posts on ā€œtricking outā€ your ride, come on over to the float tubing board at FLOAT TUBING I just finished going back through all of our posts over the last two years we have been operational, and I have made an archive of 'BEST OF THE BEST". You can look up any major heading…like Waders, Fins, Motors, etc…and just click on the links to bring up the past posts. Lotsa pics in there too.

Hey, CBR, depending on how deep the snow is this weekend, I may join you at LB. Let’s begin the anti W and the anti S dances, and keep in touch. I have a deep and driving need to move upon the waters, while waving my ā€œmagic wandsā€ in search of gullible fishies.

I dearly fear that I am not going to be worth much as a grandpa on weekends from now on. Once I renew my kinky relationships with those walleyes, I am not worth a hoot to anybody who wants anything coherent out of me.

You go to the dmv, wherever that is for you. I registered mine at the farmington courthouse. I took my sales receipt, motor’s serial number, and she assigned me a hull ID, which I’m supposed to somehow permanently attach to my toon. I haven’t done that part yet.
Depending on who you talk to at the dmv, you’ll need a title for it, which I had to do. It cost about $20 for the whole thing. Every time I take my toon out with the motor on it, I have to hang my registration numbers on it, just like a boat. It’s a pita, but you have to jump through the hoops.

[:(]Yeah its a bummer anything to get more money out of me, but to let you guys know they are trying right now to pass legislation that you also have to have liability insurance on your personal water craft as well, I cant recall the HB number but soon as I find it I will let you know, it included anything with a motor. Electric or not. may have to get used to paddeling.

So far we are doing the anti-w and anti-s dance for Sunday.

Sunday is looking to be the most mild day of the weekend so far.

That’s ridiculous. It’s an inflatable boat. Anything I hit, I would just bounce off of.
Maybe I could get comprehensive insurance, fill the toon up with propane, and send it out with a fuse lit on it. That would be pretty cool. I could sell tickets to that.

Hey, my wife works at a dentist’s office. Maybe I could fill it with nitrous. That would make a fun trip.

I bet with the nitrous, I would be able to walk back to shore.[:)]

There’s employment openings within the Big Top World- Ringling Brothers-Barnum Bailey Circus… We can use a clown on nitrous floating around with balloons catching a imaginary fish…

Pretty much a dog leash attached to a collar, but a invisible dog…[pirate][sly]:sunglasses:[:P]

Yes it is rediculous, I agree, I think the law was being looked at because of the Personal watercraft that have caused so many accidents, like jet skis and wave runners, but if the changes come into play then it will effect all of us for a few inconsiderate Dolts .

I think they could make it only pertain to watercraft with INTEGRAL or gas powered engines. What’s someone with an electric, temporarily mounted to a canoe or pontoon, going to do that would require liability insurance?

Silly lawmakers.

Tube Dude, You can get still get rich… you just gotta devise a component area to hold an bottle of Nitrous Oxide to power your tube quickly to any fishing hole, and still say, ā€œWhat motor?! I don’t need no stinkin reg number for my float tube!ā€

Nitrous Oxided powered float tubes has one particular advantage for those distressed fishermen trapped in their waders…[;)] Hee hee… sorry I hadda take a potshot at this particular one since the other post got locked down.[angelic]

:face_with_tongue:Hey guys they ammended the Insurance law for personal water craft to this.

HB 261

677 (4) (a) ā€œMotorboatā€ has the same meaning as defined in Section 73-18-2 .
678 (b) ā€œMotorboatā€ includes personal watercraft
*(c) ā€œMotorboatā€ does not include a boat with a motor with a manufacturer listed *horsepower of 50 horsepower or less.

*So it looks like us pontooners are ok for now, but its still in legislation and they could change it, if i see somthing change I will post it. *

I guess that leaves us out then, unless you’re planning on mounting a small block I/O to your toon.

:face_with_tongue:well there goes my plans… [unsure]

Still working on the date. Anyone up for a trial float this weekend @ Lincoln Beach? Could give you an opportunity for some ideas of what we can do to your floats at the ā€˜Pimp My Float’ get together. Some of us that are going sure do have some unique and not so unique ideas on how to pimp your float.

can’t make LB this weekend but still want to attend the PMF gathering. Keep us posted about a date and location.

Good Luck!!

This get together will need to be post-poned a couple more weeks. It will happen, before the next major flotilla, just need to fidn a time when my and others schedules aren’t so busy.
