Pigs are everywhere, in all the places we hunt and fish. A few years a go we went camping at Left Hand Fork in Blacksimth Fork Canyon. Its an amazing, beautiful place.
When we got there, we set up camp. We started looking around and the fire pits were completely full of garbage. The best part was all the filthy diapers these idiots left behind…
People like this will always be around. I wish that when one of these pigs did this, and got caught, there was an automatic fine of $1,000 minimum. We could soon clean up our fishing areas. Not 100%, but it would improve…
“Besides littering, I am sure the high percentage of poachers are also the ones that litter and are the lurkers.”
Just so I am clear…if I don’t make extensive contributions to this forum I am by default a littering poacher? I think that is just a little presumptuous. I understand your point and I am always frustrated with the stupidity of litter and poaching but to accuse a high percentage of the people that read, but don’t contribute, of poaching and littering might be a little over the top.
Personally I think excessive littering should be punished with heavy fines and revoked privlages to use our natural resuources ie. no hunting, no fishing, no wilderness passes, no national park passes etc. Just my opinion, and we all know what opinions are worth right?
“Anything not clearly understood…is misunderstood.”
I don’t think J-man intended to slight any of our members who do not contribute on a regular basis. I see you over-reacting just a bit. Of course we value ALL of our members…heavy contributors or not. We also welcome “visitors”. This is not an exclusive club. Most of our members have joined only after “auditing the course” long enough to decide that they might be comfortable here.
**I am going to guess that J-man was trying to suggest that it is not our BFT-minded members who are the primary culprits for either littering or poaching. Nor is it likely to be regular “visitors” who basically like our program and agree with our principles. **
However, many of us have run into folks out on the water who admit to “poaching” on BFT to get their info…without registering or contributing. Let’s give some of them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are basically good sportsmen. But there are plenty of the other kind that are takers and not givers…except when it comes to trash. They are perfectly willing to donate all of their trash to whoever follows them.
I am sure most of you will agree with me that the worst perpetrators…litterers and poachers…are folks who have probably never heard of BFT. They are either not computer literate…or literate at all. In fact, in some areas the worst offenders do not even speak English.
**What sets me off the most is when guys drive up in high-end vehicles, have all the latest in pricey gear and can well afford their fishing addiction…and then they leave the ice at the end of the day much lighter than when they arrived…because of all the trash they left behind. **
It almost takes a conscious effort to be a slob…to not pack up your trash as you empty containers or unwrap goodies…and then to throw it aside rather than take it out with you. With other folks I think they sometimes do it just to make other people mad. If so…it works.
Thanks T-dude!! Thats exactly what I meant and exactly how I was going to respond. Not all lurkers are poachers and litters but I would bet that more of them are than active contributors to the forum (or most forums). Takers that don’t give back are generally predisposed to selfish and inconsiderate behavior while those who give and share generally think of how their actions affect others including the environment.
Anyways, no offense taken. Lets catch some fish and report some poachers and litters!
I agree Jackson, fishsticker is reaching out a little here.
you can see from my screen name that I am a lurker. (feels like some kind of 12 step program) I rarely post, 'cause I rarely go fishing. I would like to, but I just don’t get much chance - job, family , all that stuff. I get my “fishing fix” mostly by reading what others are doing.
and Jackson, I have never poached anything but an egg, and a few crappies, ( boil 'em, and dip 'em in cocktail sauce. you’re gonna like it), and anything I take out in the wilds with me, comes back with me. plus usually a little more.
Probably some “PIGS” lurk, but all lurkers ain’t pigs.
I think most of us just have “fishing pole envy”
I agree than many who leave trash are those that have been described, it is evident anywhere around Utah lake where there is easy access. But I also find it in the Uintahs where you have to back pack in all you have with you. I find it amazing to find dirty disposable diapers in a camp fire ring 7 miles from the trail head. I seriously doubt these are the same guys that trash Utah Lake.Tube Dude has mentioned this many times butI will one more time. We should clean up our mess and a little the other guy left. We wont get rid of it all but we might make a dent in it. Maybe someone will see us and follow our example or at least be shamed into cleaning up their own trash. I talked to couple of our almost non english speaking fishing friends one afternoon at the pumphouse, they understood enough that they did at least pick up the stuff they had thrown down. I also would love to see more fines and enforcement for those that trash the outdoors but with budget cut backs, current laws and manpower involved not likely going to happen
I caught a fellow BFT member littering red handed and this person wouldn’t even admit it. Finally they did but sheesh.
IT IS AGAINST THE LAW. Plain and simple. More people need to be fined in my opinion thats how you stop them from doing it.
I’d rather our G/F officers spend 90% of their time looking out for this infraction because it is the most disregarded and abused law this time of year.
tube dude nice post the first one of the picture of the pig haha it cracked me up… Any way I so agree with everything being said.. I hate it when I go some where and see trash all over I havnt really seen much while ice fishing thoe!!! Mostly during the warm weather.. Eather way it is lame that people leave there garbage behind… You know it is for this reason exactly that gets our fishing places closed down… And marked no tresspasing!!! If they can pack it in why not out.. It’s becauuse they are just lazy!!! Or pigs yeah exactly… The only thing that doesn’t bother me to bad aout litter is it gives me somthing to do when the fishing is slow and unproductive… It’s a great time killer to pick it up.. But then again it sucks because it’s just that much more I’m leaving with… Taking up space in my own vehicle… But what ever a wise man once said ‘’ man is a damn mess by nature.. Reverend Maclean’’ it’s from a river runs through it if you are wondering great movie…but yeah pack it in pack it out..
