# Perch anywhere????

just seeing if anyone has had any perch success lately, been wanting to get some buckets full and pineview is just not cuttin it this year. rockport and echo are just hit and miss. i know starvation is fishing good but mostly small ones that come in big numbers. i understand if you dont want to post on the open forum a PM would be fine and if not thats fine too. seein if anyone would be willing to share.

If you don’t mind the drive you might want to try Fish Lake. We were there Saturday the 28th and caught perch all day. We fished the west side in 15’ of water and they were hitting everything all day long. Most were 6" with a few over 9" and a few trout mixed in as well.

There are still a lot of perch in PV, just a lot more bashful about biting this year. They can’t keep it up forever though.

they are in there but bashful as you said. everytime i go they are just stacked on the fish finder but only a few. the most ive got in one trip to myself there was 10 which isnt that bad but considering he view i know it should be limits in a few hours. it should turn on one day,{i hope}

Not that we’re the Perch slayers but this year the bite has been very and I mean very suttle. Dead sticking won’t do it at least from what we’ve seen and we fish for Perch and Crappie on the hard deck.
So I guess if you’re looking at getting a limit in a couple hours…well that won’t happen. We’ve done okay at Newton before the storms a couple weeks ago and also ta PV for them larger Perch but we are also putting time on the ice employing the 3Ps. The larger Perch are there and here’s my recommedations.
1. Work deeper say 45 FOW then give it some time pre-punch holes at various depths working in. For example at Newton I punched holes not even 2’ apart…would swap holes and find WOW it this hole then when that hole died moved 2’ to the other and it was Perch fest…can’t explain it but I put 4 and 5 Perch 10" plus at Newton doing this. Then a trip later…that area didn’t do squat even though we saw them on the flasher coming up and sniffing…so I moved in to a pre-punched hole at 35’…as soon as I dropped down the lure with tastee waxie it was nice Perch on…you have to move and search.
2. Next, don’t dead stick have rod in hand with a good spring bobber and not to be taken the wrong way…pay attention as the bite is soft suttle with hardly any indication at all until you pull up lure to see you’ve been raped of the offerings…totally empy lure hooks.
3. Drop lure down to bottom pffffing up the bottom slightly jig and I mean slightly jig watch finder/flasher for movement crank reel up 1/2 turn and work it with jigging not an aggressive jig.
4. There is a huge amount of food meaning forge for Perch meaning they can be picky and selective as I see it.
Again we’ve done okay nothing super fantastic but bringing home enough for a couple dinners for two.
Finally have no expectations thus one won’t be disappointed only pleasantly surprised. Thats why its called ‘fishing and not catching’. And of course time on the ice 3Ps and eventually you’ll find the honey hole for larger Perch.
Guess thats all I can say to you. The Perch bite for us isn’t like in years past…they are there trust me. Here’s a pic of our trip to PV last weekend…again mind you we were on the ice for a while.

I have not fished p/v for a couple weekends , I was getting into them off browning point in 48-52 feet the bite was lite I would watch the flasher and just dip the bait on the bottom and lift it up 6-12inches and just lightly jig it seemed to intice them 6-9 inch eaters waxies on a glow bug under a flasher 2 lb leader ! Say what you will about the size, Starvation action is still intense. After spending a couple of hours catching trout by the bridge today I headed for rabbit gulch. It is open out toward the middle, but frozen to the edge along the state park. An easy walk to 10 feet of water, and I had nonstop perch action for 45 minutes. I kept over a dozen for eating, and tossed 20-30 back. Literally only had the hook make it to the bottom once without having a fish on. I noted that shrimp and wax worms yielded lighter bite and smaller fish, while perch eyes for some reason yielded a consistent more aggressive bite and larger perch.

Hey Kelly\_Sue, do you live down that way(Mill Meadow)? A friend that lives in Fremont(Sp?) sent me a pic from there a few weeks back. Looks like the perch are doing good but so are the tigers.🙂 The perch is 11 inches.

Is it possible those fish came out of Forsyth Reservoir and not Mill Meadow? I’ve never caught a tiger in Mill Meadow and I know perch were illegally introduced into Forsyth by the bucket biologists a few years ago. I’ve heard that some good size perch have been caught in Forsyth this year.

No I live in Orangeville. The perch we caught came from Mill Meadow. I have heard they are getting a few big perch from forsight , but not the numbers just a few bign’s
