Pelican, When will it heat up?

Thanks for the information guys. I will hit it as soon as the water warms a bit. I am heading to crystal lakes in Buhl Idaho on Easter weekend. Maybe I will check the weather and plan to try it out the next weekend. Anyway, I thank you for your info, and expertiece. If any of you live in northern Utah. The flyfishing for bluegill and bass is amazing in southern Idaho (Preston) around Memorial day depending on the water temperature. If the days are in the 80s’ and the water above 60 The bluegill will be on their beds in swarms. We usually fill two coolers full on Friday and Saturday (No limit undersized) and fillet them on sunday and then fish again on Monday morning before packing for home. Twin Lakes, and Johnson seem to be the best for bluegill right now. Condie could get hot again if it fills with water this year. Just before condie was drained I caught a 2lb blue gill there.

Have you guys ever seen blue gill in pods of hundreds on the surface in deep water? I often see bluegill with hundreds of fins out of the water. I call it sharking. I keep my distance and cast a small dry fly onto the edge of the pod and pull them out all day long. I usually use poppers, sponge spiders, even elk hair caddis. Does this happen at Pelican also?

Happy Fishing
