Pelican Update

Shrimpboy,

It’s about the same as last year. Lower than it should be, but they’re pushing lots of water in. The water is always murky when they’re filling. The irrigation season starts May 1, so it’ll start going down before most people hit it.

Leaky,

The weather has been lousy out here for about a week. As far as you have to go, I’d probably wait. It’s easy for me because I can take advantage of small windows of opportunity. Planning a spring trip ahead of time is always a gamble at Pelican. Don’t worry, they’ll be hot in may.

Good Fishing, Kayote

Thanks Kayote, appreciate it. You’ve mad me feel a better. I’ll be watching the weather forcast for a 2-3 day window before I leave for my trip though. I can always wade the cattails and wear waders, gloves and rain jacket. I’m tough, heh, heh!

Now if this reputable source has a first and last name that start with S., I wouldn’t believe a thing the guy has to say:face_with_tongue:.

On the other hand, I got the feeling from the “I know she’s in there” statement, that we might be seeing Kayote or Kayote jr. in the book soon. Eh? Maybe?!?

Sounds like you had some fun anyway. Were you up there with the group from RMA, or just goofing off?

Oh, there is a post asking about camping around Pelican. You would know better than anyone else on here the answer to that question. Maybe I’ll actually go to Pelican this year. I’ve only been there 4 or 5 times in the 7.5 years I’ve been out here.

Hehehe, you slay me. The “I know she’s in there” is because I think I actually saw her once. No I wasn’t with RMA, just goofing. Did they have a tournament there?. Great bunch of guys in RMA. Camping is wide open and free at Pelican. There are nice restrooms at the ramp, and a few covered picnic tables. There are no other facilities, so bring water and shade. By mid may, bring bug spray too. During the week, Peg’s cafe is open on the east side for burgers and such. It actually is a very nice place to camp and has a beautiful view. A boat or tube or yak is almost required in these low water years. There are very few shore fishing areas available. A lot of people do wade, but make sure you use waders or risk the ‘swimmers itch’. Adios

Good Fishing, El Kayote

catch and release record would be over 27 in. hehe think they are that big in there? i personally feel the current c and r record is a bit exaggerated since that would put that bass in the 20 lbs class and i have never heard of one in that size coming out of anywhere in utah.

mothers day weekend is almost always peek of the spawn there. there really on the beds good by then.
