🕶 **I just got a link to an article by Brett Prettyman of the Tribune. Seems like the last known disease free source of muskies has been found to be infected with VHS. So, for the time being, that means no more tiger muskies for Utah.**

I thought that they already put a ban on catch and Keep for all tiger Muskies.. So, if that’s true.. you gotta wait until Utah gets theirs going strong before you will be putting anything on the wall.. Unless, of coarse, you take measurements and send the big daddy free..

Just dont take him home with you! I spoke to a guy a few weeks ago that said he was going to pineview to try and catch a tiger large enough to keep and get mounted. I tried to tell him that tigers are catch and release only right now. He argued with me and didnt believe me. I guess he didnt trust a guy with a mohawk[sly][:p]!

I thought you could keep one but it has to be over 40 inches. Or is there a temporary stop to that too?

They made it catch and release a few months ago because they couldnt find a hatchery that was desease free.

Ah.. Sarcasm and internet forums often work out . (see, I am being sarcastic 🕶)

I should have known you were being sarcastic.. but, you never know when someone on here if they miss one of the regulation changes.. looks like you had a couple of us stepping forward to let you know don’t keep.

Plus, I would imagine they have signs all over the place at locals for catching tiger muskies..

That is not the news I wanted to hear. Sometimes it appears that Utah takes one step forward and two back when it comes to Tiger Muskies. I hope Utah has a backup plan.

This is where DWR to allow me to keep a few pike and bring ‘em to the hatchery…how about for every pike I bring them they promise to plant 50k of them over the next 3 years…sounds like what needs done…forget tiger trout for feeding in the shallows…try some nice pike…and they may even chase the burbot out to 35-60’ of water…BIG pike love 53-56 degree water…
Let’s get grown some nice pike until we get some tigers or real Musky (non hybrid).

You have got to be kidding me! All of the muskies in this world and there is NO viable replacements? The government can watch you from space but can’t find a few fish? I have lost all hope for pineview now. The longer it takes, the harder it will be to come back.[:/]

Especially with all the idiots that have no idea what the rules are. People will keep keeping Tigers every year, they are still keeping them right now and always will until they are gone from Pineview.
Some \*\*name of race deleted – Kent \*\*people have no idea what a “Proclamation” is and keep every tiger they catch. Other guys think the proclamation is the same it has been for last 5 years and don’t bother keeping up on the rules. I know a guy in my neighborhood that kept 3 tigers in the 20-25 inch range two months ago. He ended up throwing them away when he got home because he didn’t know how to cook them.
With no more tigers being planted, they will dissapear real quick.[frown]

you all need to check the regulations. Mandatory catch and release on TM’s is only for a couple specific waters. There are still waters in Utah that allow for the harvest of a 40+" TM.

I am very concerned about this. I have actually e-mailed the DWR inquiring about some ideas I thought of and whether or not they have already tried them and what their feelings are about them.

One has to do with acquiring pure muskies that have not been exposed to the virus that causes hemorraghic septicemia from public/private aquariums to use for a breeding program. Am I seeing things or are those muskies swimming around in the aquarium at Cabelas? Could be tiger muskies, but the info thing says they are muskies.

Another thing I wonder about has to do with gynogenesis, which is a type of asexual reproduction. It is related to parthenogenesis and basically produces clones. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about actually cloning as most people think about it, this is a natural process. Some female tiger muskies are fertile, as studies have proved. Along with this, experiments have shown that female pure muskies can produce viable offspring asexually through only the presence (not actually fertilization) of modified sperm from another fish - gynogenesis. If pure muskies can do it, I wonder if a fertile female tiger musky can be found in Pineview (biologists have an easy way of determining female muskies just be looking) where gynogensis can be attempted to produce more tiger muskies.

Just some thoughts…

Anyway, it probably comes down to $$$ plain and simple, and it sounds like they’ll probably be able to keep those muskies in New Jersey safe for Utah to get next year.

The new changes are not in the proclamation, unless there is an ink alien out there somewhere. I can understand where average Joe doesn’t know about the regulation change and why look further into it than the ‘guidebook’? PBH, there are no other places in Utah that have TM’s [;)][;)].

🕶 **I had a chance to speak with Brad Cutler, president of Rocky Mountain Anglers today, down at Yuba. He has been working with Drew Cushing and other DWR folks to help get the new hatchery program setup…including catching many of the northerns that were recently obtained from Recapture Reservoir to contribute to the tiger musky program.**

* * *

**He advised me of two things: 1. There is at least one other source of muskies that is going through the testing process. Not the end of the world yet. 2. Work is being conducted to develop some triploid northerns (sterile) that could be substituted both for angler happiness and population control for unwanted or overpopulated species.**

**DWR has not given up. So, you shouldn’t either.**

They issued a news release about it - plus I believe they posted signs at Pineview as well.
