Newton was pretty stingy, but tempting this past weekend. Caught up with Bama Boy, and Jdawg out there musky hunting. We had follows, and spotting quite a few, both from boat, and from shore - there were loads that seemed drawn to the bacon and hashbrowns . . . Sunday morn.
Had a nice one chase my topwater right to shore’s edge. Sitting not 3ft from my feet, and just looking at my lure, but I had no more real-estate to work it. …
man - it’s a rush seeing them so close, or to look down and realize you’ve been followed.
We did see some basslings and lots of splashing in the brush, but couldn’t find any bass to play. I’m more accostomed to that lake at low water, and all the landmarks change when the level is so high.
Didn’t even track down the perch this time out.
So - I see catfish on the sign, hear folks talk about some great channels from there - back when. I see someone was kind enough to leave their chicken livers and trash - so wonders if folks are still targetting kitties, and if any are there to target? I never have at that lake.
Bluegill I’ve not encountered either.
Another pair of anglers left what I think was a beef heart. Guess they’re the meat-musky hunters. Didn’t see any hookups while we there there at least.
The Saturday afternoon powersquad sure churned up a storm. You coulda surfed some of them waves to shore - white caps and all.
Such a small lake for such big boats. If they could draw a line halfway and say - this zone only . . .
Calm-early morning - sure was the best time to be out.
Sure was fun to at least sight-see a bunch of musky lurking abouts. We had as many as three come in at a time looking for - something - couple hookups, but none landed.
It’ll only get better.
