NEW RAINBOW STATE RECORD????

I thought that was a Henry’s Cutt…[;)]

Hey KG!! How you healin’? I’ve been fighting a spine that feels like a sackful of rocks. That pic has been getting some pretty good mileage. Those browns are just gettin’ bigger all the time. Have you been able to get out? The pond is calling! The flavs are hatching. The wind is blowing. Maybe we can get your boys to push us to the fishing in wheelchairs.[;)] Give me a shout if you’re inclined.

Almost doubtlessly, I would wager, and I would additionally submit there needs to be a separate record for genetic mutants.

99% of the fish that are oversized are “genetic mutants.” The inability to breed keeps them putting in the groceries waiting for the response that doesn’t happen due to a malfunction in their reproductive system. This happens naturally as well as in triploid fish. Nature creates a quite a few triploids on it’s own. This being said, 90% of all record fish are triploids whether is be from natural causes or man made.

I still think it looks like a cutt…

you know im almost willing to bet it was caught on pop gear… seems to be what catches the big ones from there…

I was told he caught it jigging,Friend of a friend type deal though, so i really don’t know.
But am kinda curious to know the details.

paper said he was trolling with electric trolling motor and a jig in less then 20 ft of water… Who knows??

I agree, no need for a seperate record. Nature produces triploid and other freaks all on her own.

Not just state, i believe it’s a national record.:astonished:

i heard it was caught with power bait and a whole pack of hotdogs[;)]

Looks like a lot of you were correct. Idaho Fish and Game put the fish up on their records page. They listed it as a Rainbow/Cut Hybrid. Still a great fish considering the Cutt record is only 18lbs.

a little birdy told me, that fish was caught on the east end, over a channel. using a mr twister setup, trolling at 1 mph jigging it along the way.

well It just so happens my land lord is the taxidermist for this fish!!! here is some info that wasn’t shared… the guy who caught it didn’t want the meat so he donated it.. which i got to eat some it was way good.. the fish and game took a sample of the ear area bone to test for its age.,. the fish was only 5 years old… it was caught over by Aberdeen.. and it wasn’t a jig… i was told not to share the bait used but i can tell you this it wasnt a jig… also this was not the biggest fish caught this year out of AF there is a much bigger one from this year that was casted by the same taxidermist from another guy local to AF he just didn’t want every one asking him all sorts of questions and didn’t really care to have shaterd the record… here is the info i got… from the taxidermist that is doing the fish…

What blows my mind in this fish is 6 years old . Is there a lot of food in this lake or what . Curt G.

So many different stories out already lol… but any ways man i would think MUCH MUCH older of a fish for that size…

every one thought it was older the fish and game took the bone around the ear and they said it was the same size as a 5 year old bow.. the reasons they marked it as a hybred is because so many people in the trout world wined and complaind about it.. if any one wants some of the fish and pictures of it befor and after the skinning and of other people holding it… im sure i could get some… if i asked…

also this was not the biggest fish caught this year out of AF there is a much bigger one from this year that was casted by the same taxidermist from another guy local to AF he just didn’t want every one asking him all sorts of questions and didn’t really care to have shaterd the record

Hey what would fishing be without the lies right.

hey no need to believe me doesn’t bother me none.. just passing on what i herd from one of Idahos number one record holders in the freshwater records book…

the list goes on and on… im very confident that my source is legit and isn’t making up fish tales…

Usually wouldn’t challenge someone but one upping a 34 pound state record rainbow with the only proof being word of mouth comes across as questionable to me. Your references don’t make any sense how they would prove that someone caught a much lager fish. Like I said though lies are part of fishing, just be ready to be called on it. I can’t be the only one that hates to see someone trying to marginalize a fish like that.

if you would read the guy i am talking about has a picture of himself holding a fish from AF that is published in the freshwater record book.. of a 32# bow catch and release.. why didn’t this make the paper you ask because this guy has been breaking records since the late 80’s early 90’s and really doesn’t care for the press.. im simply saying a fish that size isn’t as uncommon as every one seems to think… for another example twins in Canada hold the world record of bows… of the triplod sort… and for the fact the fish & game have stated there are multiple records in AF res… i don’t know if any one on here remembers the hi way pond that was by pocatello but that was only stocked for 3 years before a guy caught a 22# bow from there that was only a 4 year old fish… according to the fish & game… I mean really look up the characteristics of a triplod strain they grow very fast as long as they have the right nutrients..
