That is genius!!! I think I heard the same thing [;)]
We have caught a ton of wipers every year except the year before last. The secret? Fish a lot. Most of the time the fishing will be slow, but the hot times make up for it. And also try slower presentations in the spring, and then you can go fast in the middle of the summer. Mornings and evenings are best. Size of lure doesn’t seem to be too important. We have caught them on two-inch to five-inch plugs. Anything that looks like a shad usually works, but we have caught them on black crankbaits, too. I don’t think the rattling baits are any better than others. The best I’ve seen competitors do is on spinnerbaits (medium size, retrieved very, very fast, just under the surface in late summer), white grubs (cast and slowly trolled by a float tuber), and another time when some Vietnamese guys were slaying them with white tube jigs about three inches long, suspended three feet below bobbers. I favor casting poppers into schools on the surface. Please, everybody, don’t drive right into a school just to catch one fish before putting the school down. Go upwind, cut the motor and drift along one side of the school, and if you have an electric motor, you can stay pretty close to the school without putting them down. And when you hook one, you can often keep it on while your fishing partners hook up the fish that often follow the first one. I release any that are under about 16 inches and if the fishing is hot, I go to 18 or 19 inches.

VERY VERY GOOD POST!
+1
Is it really going down to two again coot? you hearing rumors or just wishful thinking? I wish they would have done that two years ago!
Not even a rumor … just wishfull thinking.
All of us that would like to see the Wiper limit lowered should go online to the DWR and request it.
Attending the DWR Open House is also a great way to get the word out.
The DWR tried to raise Wiper Inhouse this year but things didn’t come together for it to work, so there will be less Wiper stocked again this year.
Hopefully next year it will work.
I would love to see the Wiper limit reduced to either 3 or even 2 fish.
That’s plenty for one person!
On the on line pole I purposed this until the lake becomes more balanced so will see what happens? Hope everyone went on line and added comments at the end of it?
I posted, get rid of the wipers so the walleye can come back.![]()
LOL!!!
I was thinking the same thing when I read that! Less wiper should give the up and coming walleye a fighting chance! Hey, we should be nice, at least wiper arent trout[;)].
Looks like Dad put some change in his pocket from the tourney in WY. He sent a picture of the big walleye he caught, good for him. Headed to Starvation tomorrow for a few days, looks like the weather is going to be the pits, but it seems to be that way almost every year over the Memorial Day weekend. Good luck to where ever you are headed this weekend.[fishin]
Thanks for all the info guys! Good stuff.
Make sure you register on cabelas before you go to starvy there PACKFAN. Could catch a winner[;)]
Register? Register for what?
I’ll be there to share in the wonderful weather with you Pete![pirate] You can blame it on me as the only time I’ve had good weather for a trip this year I ended up sinking my boat the first day and never even got to fish. 2011 Has had a rough start for me so far.
I expect FOD will show up one night for a few drinks. We’ll have fun anyways, I just hope we don’t get blown off the lake.
There are 4 tagged walleye in starvation right now worth 1 million dollars each, and 15 tagged walleye for various other prizes. The dwr tagged the fish for cabelas. But you HAVE to register on cabelas site BEFORE you catch them. Would sure suck to whack a million dollar fish you dont qualify for! There is something about it on the dwr’s web site and on cabelas. Also there are 2 smallmouth in east canyon tagged and 2 stripers at lake powell. I would sure like to see some of that money go to a BFTer (namely me[;)]). Go make some money Pete! Hope you read this before you leave. Same to you Todsky, go get a money fish! Just leave one in there for me, k guys!
Wow, that would be something. Thanks for the info Mike.
