I got my Strawbale Garden put in and going just after Mother’s day , I love how the Veggies grow this way . Best part because of some back issues No Digging in the dirt and I built some 4x8 ft above the ground boxes 2ft high. Much easier to work with and at the end of the season I refill the boxes with the used Straw to make Compost for next year. I’ve been doing this for about 5 years , love it.

Nice setup Dan, I’ve been thinking about making my boxes a little deeper, for the same reason. How much water do you give them? I water mine twice a day for 10 minutes.

> During the Bale Conditioning which is about 12 days , you water the bales until you get Saturation . After you put in your Plants then you only need to give each bale about a Gallon of water once or sometimes twice a day depending on the Tempurature . I would be glad to talk with you about it anytime.

We used to do straw bale gardening, but since we always had to track down places to get our bales and we ran out of room to compost them we eventually threw it in for just growing in the greenhouse instead. We ran soaker hoses on timers on our bales and it worked really well.

So, if you have the space and access to getting bales it was great. We liked having raised beds. So we made sure in the greenhouse to only have raised beds as well. Each year we amend with composted steer manure and add calcium to tomato beds and get everything gets tilled in. Once you’re in the beds they are large enough you can do this easily.
