Magnetic Net Release

My set up is basically like this except the magnet is built in, but this is your best shot

http://www.cabelas.com/p-0004281314989a.shtml

A piece of nylon strap with a ring like from a key chain. Then attach one end of the magnet to it.

Notice the Bungie leash in the picture also.

Okay, here they are.
First off, even the Magnet is custom made by the net builder Gregory Walker (no longer in the net business, sorry)
The Magnets are made out of wood.
Here is the net with the built in Magnet:

Then there is the older net where I attached a screw with a loop for the head. I siliconed the point for safety reasons:

With Magnet:

And of course, the leash:

FG,
With your previous suggestions that is exactly how I set up my net. Before I had the magnets on the handle end and the net would not infrequently pull off in brush. With the magnets on the net end and lease on the handle that almost never happens now and easier to actually grab the handle while fighting a fish.

Thank you very much for the pictures sister.
The built in magnet looks fantastic.
Now the million dollar question is- which option do you
like better- the fixed magnet mounting or the loose all
over the place one?

Peter

Both are great. I will say, that the rings that connect the magnets can be a pain in that they are metal and the magnet sticks to them.
But either one, there is no problem with lifting the net to the back of my neck area and the magnets find their other half pretty quick and easy.
No fusing allowed.[;)]

ok, that sounds good. So the one thing that I could
do is replace the rings with something non magnetic.
Well just one ring because Im planing on mounting
one of them on the net it self.
Ok, fantastic.
Thank you so much Joni

Peter

definatly to the top of the net..otherwise the netting catches on everthing and pulls lose..also attach net to belt..so you dont lose it for same reoson..i do have one myself..speaking from exsperience

ok, will do.
Thank you Lurtch.

I agree with lurch and FG. Put it on the net end.

I have the bungee cord and the the magnetic catch both attached to a “D” ring on the back collar of my vest.

The picture you posted of the one you got shows an allegator clip type of attachment for the coiled retention cord. cut the clip off and put on something that can not be pulled off your clothing or belt or vest. Otherwise when you are bush wacking through the brush and trees and the net or the cord gets caught on a branch the whole thing will be pulled off and you will not even know it. There is willow tree on the East River in Colorado that claimed my first net many years ago. Never did find that willow tree again. But then there were thousands of willow trees along that part of the East River.

Thank you for your intup Scruffy.
I will replace that alligator clip.I was bushwhacking
before so I can imagine that something could
grab my net very easily.
Once again Thank you

Peter

[.img]http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/bobwink.gifT*[size 3] it is just the right size for the fish that I usually catch. lol***
