Nice report. Congrats on a great day! As Kastmaster noted, we all were up to Rock cliffs last night. With the rapid drawdown of Jordanelle in the past couple of weeks, most of the areas we have been catching bass at a superb rate the past few weeks are now only about 5-8 ft deep. The perch loved it as we caught them at will near weedy structure. Most were 5-7 inches but I had them up to 12 inches. Dinner was caught without much effort. The bass though seemed to have vacated the areas they were in just a few days before and were few and far between. (or thats what I would like to believe[;)]) Water temps were 73 degrees.

If we did the demo before it got too cold we could use my backyard or garage for a jig demo. I live in Orem so that should work for most of Utah Valley.
Tuesday nights are best for most folks…6:30 - 8:30.
I will be out of town on Sept. 18th, but I am open on either the 11th or 25th. If either of those dates works for you, go ahead and post it up. Send your address information only to those who PM you with an interest.
First class will be a complete overview…pouring, prepping, painting, glittering, etc. This should give folks an idea of what it’s all about. After the first session we will focus on specific parts of jig making, for those who are serious.
Some of us are a teeny bit far away to make it.

I have photo documents of most of the creations I concoct. I also have writeups on the “how to” part and will gladly post or send them to anybody who asks.
I once made a CD of a compilation of many pictures, websites and writeups for rod building. I will probably do the same for lure and jig making.
In the meantime, if there is anything you wish to see more of, let me know.

I always considered lead to be a soft and “greasy” metal, unsuited for holding a paint layer. But those jigs of yours are very impressively finished and I rather fancy being able to have a go at producing similar for dunking in my local lakes.

Here are a few of the “writeups” I have put together over time, as an aid to those who are investigating the potential for crafting their own trinkets. These are all Word documents. If you have problems opening any of them, let me know and I will either post them or send them in PDF format.
I have been working with lead jigs and other lures for MANY years. Lead melts at low heat and is easy to work with. It is also easy to paint…either with powder coatings or with the vinyl jig paints readily available on the market. You can obtain just about any color or color combination you can dream up. I custom blend colors to get my own unique shades…many of which are fantastic fish producers and are otherwise unavailable on the market.
PM me with any specific questions or if you need pictures to better illustrate any of the points made in the written pieces.
I have to add my bit to this post! After he has been in his “tackletorium” for a couple of hours working on his creations, he comes out with various colors of paint on his fingers and has several little bits of sparkles all over … at first I wondered if he might have “Trixie” and “Bubbles” stashed in there! Guess it is what comes with the territory. If you go down this path, you may want to let your significant others know what to expect!

Ah … the surprise of seeing some glitter on the clothes, hair or eyebrows of a grown man!
I have two daughters, and when they were of a certain age (play make-up toys-wise) we used to find the occasional “glitter spill” in the house.
Well no matter how well you clean up, that stuff gets everywhere, and bits turn up months later! [:)]

I too tie all my own flies, and have built up rods in the past, and moulded casting weights for surf fishing.
Did a bit of carving and moulding resin / wood minnows with some success for salmon, but didn’t stick at it.
The fly tying I will never give up … it is just so much of an advantage being able to produce exactly what you want, size, colour, hook size/type to ever give it up.
I plan to tool up with some of the nice new epoxy paints and glitter and try my hand at jig making this fall.
