# Keys to catching Trout?

A friend of mine is going out to fish Irvine on Wednesday. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Light line is the key to catching trout. Also fishing where the fish are help too. Use either 4# test with 2# leader or straight 2# test. Some say that wearing certain brands of clothing can increase catches-but I can’t verify that.

2# test, blown up night crawlers on the west bank, If you get there early enough I would try to get a good spot on the shore, if thier taken get a boat and fish the west bank. Also if you get a boat and noone is in the logoon, try a heavy sinker at the bottom of your line and tie your hook about a foot from the end of your line, cast into where the water comes into the lake, if your wieghts not heavy enough it will flow into the logoon, you want to be right by where the water comes in. I havent actaually tried it but saw a couple of guys doing it while we were in the lagoon (problem is there’s really only room for one boat to get into this spot and cast right where the water comes in) so if you want to try it get there first!. In the past before they planted trout in Irvine, it was notorious for catching “giant” crappie. Mini-jigs will catch them and it’s about that time. Ask the guys in the tackle store where the “Fence-line” is. That’s where we used to get them. We recently caught trout on the west shore using just enough weight to sink the inflated worm…slowly. Now and then twitch the rod in a tantilizing manner. The trout swim that area up and back continually. As he days go by they get smarter and smarter. There are a lot of trout in that lake and if you aren’t catching them keep changing tackle presentations. My mind set, Is to believe that a trout swims by my bait about every two minutes even though though they pass it up. George
