Jordanelle Secrets

No perch have been found this year, there was a reall bad perch crash in the past year, but the good news is, all the trout I have caught up there have had loads of minnows in there stomaches from this past years spawn. It is doubtful that they will come back in any big numbers in Jordanelle. So many big predators and not enough food. Most of the bass caught last week were very very skinny and starving. Only found a couple spots that were producing big healthy bass which means the food source there was ok.

**I been finding the opposite of what you are digging up. Fat healthy smallies that were spitting up finger size perchies. The north end has shown alot of chubs, the Provo river arm has been containing the perch. Water levels have messed them up big time, but the smallies will over come it(they always do).

If you get into a reaction bite, awesome! More power to you. But, Lake X can be describe mostly a plastic fishery. Sure you can get into a power bite, but plastics cash checks.

Well I meant Senko Style worms and Spinnerbaits were both working.

Find it hard to believe that there is a shortage of food (small fish ). Granted I did what I could with the perch population thru the ice . I know of a few fat seagulls , but really there is a lot of perch in there . They were thick everywhere I punched a hole in the ice early "this year "in 10’ of water to 65’ . I bet I hooked over 500 thru the ice in February . Once I get my season pass money saved up I will be there to find some and a bass or 2 .

Has anybody been catching any perch at Jordanelle in the last 30 days?
And the bass are weighting light for the length, we caught a 18 1/2 in smalle that weigh 3 lb for that length it should have been 4.5 to 5 lb, we had three fish this size and the rest were what I call raiser backs ( not wide across the back), there was some that was in good shape but they were the fish in the 15 in length and smaller most of the bigger fish was weighing 8 to 16 oz lighter then last year.
I’m going back up wed.

There is definately something going on with the perch population in Jordanelle this year. Last year I was hooking average 5-10 perch per trip using the same tactics I am using this year. This year I have hooked 0 perch and have caught over 60 fish out of Jordanelle.

They aren’t as plentiful as most think, and the numbers of dead perch I saw in the beginning of the season really concerns me.

We will see what the DWR finds out in Jordanelle when they evaluate the food source again this summer.

Bassrods. I just got back from 2 days on the Nelle and caught alot of bass but no perch. There is definately something wrong with the perch population. In previous years you couldn’t throw a plastic lure without getting a perch bite. About a month ago I was up the provo arm and there were dead perch all over the surface of the lake. I heard of people catching a couple while I was there, but nothing like previous years. I hear the chubs are coming in real strong this year.

Ok Nate, here is a Rock Cliffs report for you,
It is on. I enjoyed a nice double digit bass morning up there yesterday. I got a 16 1/2 and a 16 but most of my fish were 11-13 inches. The fish to me were scattered and localized more than I would expect. Many prime looking areas had nothing, and one seemingly margainal area that all the bass boats ignored was loaded. I also found the fish to be very fussy and only like senkos of certain colors. (think last years flavors) Grubs and other lures were refused. It was too windy for me to try much dropshotting from my float tube. There were NO PERCH.
Have a fun and safe holiday weekend all, and tight lines if you go out.

The “mouth” is where the river comes in bro. Go Get Em!

doggone-
