the logan, especially above dam 3, is on of my fav places to fish in utah. i have never in my life ran into a problem there. but in its, and my defense, i have never fished it on a weekend during the summer if i can think that far back
Yeah, I rarely fish below it either. I haven’t had any serious problems there. Sometimes trying to find an empty spot in a section I like can take a bit of time, but overall not too bad. Ew, though there was the time this car came barreling into the pulloff I was in, nearly hitting me, and then a little carsick kid puked their guts out. Then dad was carrying the kid around and comes over by me. I was afraid it was going to go off again. That was an unpleasant experience. Overall I like The Logan, but I wouldn’t mind finding another stream that had a little less traffic. It certainly beats The Provo or Weber for crowds though.
The one I really love is when you’re trolling along, say at Willard, close to the dike, and some bozo flies through between you and the shore hauling some skier. ARE SOME FOLKS REALLY THAT STUPID?
Yes some are really that stupid. They are the ones who do not read the boating rules and think they know it all. I was in a float tube at Hyrum when I was almost run over by a boat with skiers. The problem was the pilot was watching behind him and not in front. If you see a problem get the info on them and then contact the ranger. Especially on utah state parks, they will give out fines.
Are the rangers pretty good about giving out fines for that type of stuff? I usually take pictures or video when it looks like I’m about to get buzzed by a moron going full speed within 150 feet and or his waterskiers.
When you call them in, do they require “proof” such as a picture, or can you simply get the registration # and description of the moron and give them a call?
Looking at the boating laws for UT…
73-18-12. Operation in willful or wanton disregard for safety – Penalty.

(ii) When both have the wind on the same side, the operator of the vessel which is to the
windward shall keep out of the way of the vessel which is to leeward; and

(11) The operator of a motorboat is responsible for any damage or injury caused by the
wake produced by the operator’s motorboat.
…(16) A person who violates this section is guilty of a class C misdemeanor.
I just want to get out and fish, and not worry about my safety, whether my lines will get cut by a prop, and hopefully enjoy some peace. Unfortunately, I see crap like as described above in the “what not to do” section about every time I go out.
If your near an urban area or in the city you get crowds fishing at parks. Ponds and “special spots” for fisherman all alike can have folks across the stream from each other.
I’ve fished the Provo River and had fisherman fish right across from me with no regard to whether they would snag my line or not.
**And let me get one thing straight its not only Mexicans or folks from foreign countries— I get white, middle class idiotic government public school brainwashed losers that do the same thing. At Willard I got both white “Amer-I-cans” crossing my fishing lines and all that. Gross!
I’m offended when people stereo-type race with certain actions. I’m white does that mean I like income taxes, big government and inflation?
** I don’t stereo type races or ethnic groups because it ain’t the gene pool its the lack of personal self worth and pride in having common sense. Degraded folks or those with low IQs should be gently tapped on the shoulder and told to fish elsewhere. Regardless of tempers or whatever.
For me though there are the exceptions: at a park at any river I know fisher folks want some trout action. So I just mind my own business.
Other than that Leave Me Alone! Scat you cat!
I got a PM from another BFTer:
** Sorry for the word retarded:
Not everyone is backward that goes to public school. Part of my ire was how stupid people can be when it comes to fishing manners. By degraded folk I dont mean handicapped or any other disability. I mean degraded (ie. dumb) like those who do not suffer from any malady. I did use the word retarded it has nothing to do with those with disabilities.
I know I should know better than to vent my anger here at BFT. Sometimes things get in my skin, thats my problem and no one else, period.
By the way as I PMed the offended BFTer
I told that person about the USA being #28 in academic performance. There are in fact negative consequences from lowering school academic standards. One of them is IQ.
Feel free anyone to PM me or the moderators in regard to this post. I got low. But I’m only one of the millions of American fed up with the crap that goes on in this country. Again sorry to the offended person.

Last fall I was fishing at Deer Creek in 12 - 15 ft of water. I had been searchin for the walley’s and finally found them after hours of searching. I had made three or four passes and had dropped a buoy because I didn’t have my lowrance gps yet. Some jag off came zinging past me in between the shore and the buoy and my boat. He couldn’t have been in 4-5 ft of water, I was trolling and really wished I had a heavy ratltrap on as I could have easily snagged mysef a skier. If that guy would have fallen I can’t imagine he wouldn’t have hit the bottom of the lake. Amazing thing is he kept running around areas where I know were extremely shallow as well. I had fished those areas and marked the depth at about 6 feet and less in some spots it looked like he was flying over. I’m amazed more water skiers don’t die here. The worst part is his idiotic full throttle pass shut the eyes off totally.
maybee there not idiots..maybee they were never educated in fishing common sense..i dont think they teach that in public or private schools…maybee thats our job to help out the less fortunate..we teach our kids the rules..why not help just 1 a day..
