That was nice of you to move for me, EZ. Kicking your feet in boots is basically useless, so thanks. Did you fish with a bobber? What were you using?
I was using a weighted bobber with a three foot leader and a simple hook with some big fat Canadian Nightcrawlers. I figured somewhere in the tan soup a cat would sniff them out. Had a few nibbles early, then nothing.
I’ll learn. I’m a newbie to fishing, to pontoon boats, and to Utah Lake. The trifecta. I had a small Kastmaster and floating Rapala that I could have tried, but didn’t want to risk the rocks and sticks.
I’ve read quite a few of TD’s articles on Utah Lake, and think I’ll try mixing some plastic colors with a hot plate and giving it some action.
So my cousin shows up late AND you tow him back to shore? He doesn’t sound like much of a fishing buddy to me. [;)] Just kidding, I’m just jealous. The planets don’t seem to be aligning for me this spring so that I can have a day off work AND decent weather on the same day. [:(]
No, I am not some kind of masochist. Nor do I have a soft spot for latecomers. After all, this is Utah…where if you are a half hour late you will probably be the first person to show up.
**Truth is I just (partially) returned the favor of having Brian give me a tow…before I had the motor on my tube. On a past trip to Willard Bay a strong east wind came up while I was still quite a ways from the launch ramp in my tube. The wind was blowing harder and harder and I was making no headway at all. **
Your cousin had already made it to the ramp, in his pontoon…with oars. He came back out to give me some powered assistance. He tossed me a rope and leaned on his oars to get us both back to the ramp. Just before getting there he put a mighty heave on the oars and the frame on his pontoon broke apart at a weld. We both made it in okay but that could have been a lot worse.
Since then…and since getting “powerized”…I cheerfully toss him a tow rope whenever we have finished fishing and there is some distance back to home base. Besides being good friends I never forget a favor rendered. MinnKota karma.
Great post and pics as usual Pat, helped pass the time at my desk this morning, I’m hoping the weather breaks by next weekend and the eyes want to play at Starvation.
I read that a few of you wallieholics will be dunkin’ and drinkin’ over there next weekend. Hope the weather stablilizes and that the fish get on some kind of recognizable pattern. Might still be tough with the rising and falling water levels and the poor visibility in some areas. But sometimes that can work positively.
