If you are talking about the pizza shop that was right off the highway, then it has closed. The shop off of Main Street in challis is still open. Haven’t eaten there in years. Heard the place off the highway was good, never had a chance to eat there.
As hooknhunter mentioned, it’s a good idea to have some repellent handy.
Has anybody ever hiked back to Red Lake, this lake is on the west side of the Lone Pine Peak, which is SE of Challis. It looks like a nice hike 2-3miles back and I think the elevations are about 6500. The rangers also suggested some of these may be opened up near Challis by last weekend of May: Jimmy Smith Lake off East Fork Rd, Bayhorse Lake. Also on the western end the ranger said Challis Lake may be open, its only a few mile hike so we may check that out. Starting to narrow down options and I think with a good map we’ll be able to pinpoint some good locations when we get there. Thanks again all for the advice, its been good stuff.
Jimmy smith and bayhorse will probably be open. Never heard of red lake. If by challis lake you mean challis creek lakes, I wouldn’t think they would be open. Pretty high up there. I haven’t been up there though, so I’m going by past years experience. You will be able to get to mosquito flat res. and from there the challis creek lakes are another 7 miles. Rough road which I would assume is snow bound. Maybe could hike up there
Yeah Salmon Season opened on April 26th on the Clearwater, Snake, and Lower Salmon Rivers. Fish and Game releases the seasons between Salmon and Stanley later on in the year. This way they have a better prediction on fish counts returning to the Pahsimeroi and Sawtooth fish hatcheries. This fishery doesn’t open every year; however, they are expecting a good return and fishing will open June 21st between North Fork and Stanley.
