Went ice fishing with some friends from Roy this past week-end. We went N. to Idaho, met a local couple and spent a couple days catching perch. We caught a lot of perch, most every size from tiny to jumbo. It was foggy early in the morning, without a GPS we would never have found the places we wanted to fish. Once the fog burned off at 10:00 or so, the weather was beautiful. we all had a great time, everyone caught fish and the company was stellar. We are planning on going back, there’s more jumbo’s that we want to meet.

Great time with awesome folks…can’ wait for the next adventure and being stellar learning students already planning and doing google earthing other locations…will find more of them JUMBOS like we saw a cooler full of from our connection that provided additional info…like you said from the micro-micros to the mamas of the micros…
Adding some more photos…and thank you and your wife for the canned fish…ohhhhhh come on next trip and sure as hoping mama nature has the hormones meds still adjusted can do without the 3 hour socked in fog delay for others though.
I have to give a huge THANK YOU to the motel we stayed at yet again…bent over backwards to allow us to use areas that are usually off limits to guests…even storing the cleaned fish in their freezer. Only down side would be parking but they worked with us and other hard deck anglers hauling machines…
WG you need to post up that photo I took of your big’n.

You didn’t tell me you were going fishing. You just said you were getting ready for a trip. [frown]
There are some dandys in your pile but the ratio of dinks to jumbos looks a little skinny. I’d be interested in joining the group on the next trip if the ladies could put up with another retired guy.

We didn’t weigh any of them, the largest was 14 1/4 in. The other big ones were all around 14, some with the huge bellys, some not. I would think the largest would weigh between 1 3/4 and 2lbs.

It’s amazing the difference a couple inches makes in a perch. We got a 11"er Saturday and was happy to get one big enough to keep and I got a couple fair fillets, but it was puny compared to yours. Hope they still taste great when they get big. Got a goal to shoot at now.
So I’m wondering if K2 works at Hill. I heard a story of an Idaho trip and 14" perch there today. Can’t tell from the picture but seems like it could be K2.
Do you fish for Koke through the ice at the gorge? If so is it worth the trip out? Thanks for the report that was nice to see some good ones. Later J

Jeff, yes K2 works at the base, not sure doing what.
No never ice fished for kokes at the gorge, but people catch some from time to time. Only thing we ever ice fish for are the burbut and lake trout

Nice report and pics Gary, thanks for sharing it with us. It sure is ashame you have to travel so far to find some good perch fishing like that but I guess it is a good way to break up the Winter with a good road trip.

Hey Gary thanks for the info, I wondered if K was k2. I’m surprised you don’t chase the Koke on the gorge they are great eating this time of year, but probably hard to track down on the gorge. Also seemed like gorge Kokes don’t school up like smaller pond Kokes do. That would make it much harder to chase them.
Do you run a walker electric down rigger? I’m dreaming of one of those for gorge Kokes this summer. Just wonder if they are as good as the reviews say they are? Thanks J

It was a fun time with great folks. Maybe a bit of a drive but well worth it for us we planned this and the next trip last summer. Round trip from Roy a little over 800 miles. Have to thank Mama Nature for the awesome weather all except she didn’t let go of the fog blanket for most of the morning. Other than that a very nice trip and its going to be game on come the next trip in the very near future as long as Mama Nature allows.
Like Gary stated earlier and photos show we caught the smallest perch we’ve ever seen all the way to the JUMBOS and every year class inbetween. Second day I was tossing back 10" fish.
So I’m wondering if K2 works at Hill. I heard a story of an Idaho trip and 14" perch there today. Can’t tell from the picture but seems like it could be K2.
Yep still at Hill. Unsure of the Idaho story you heard and it being us but we did catch nice Perch on our trip with several at and over 14".
We as so ready for this next planned trip…even thinking of doing another that would be unplanned its so tempting.🙂🙂

Jeff, I run cannon down riggers, one old type and one new fast type( 250 fpm ) I have a friend who has a Walker and he really likes it. It is fast as well. The electric downriggers are real nice, no matter what brand. I think it gets to be a Chevy- Ford thing.

Hiya Curt,
No need to PM as I’m sure the motel would like other visitors if others are interested. Sharon usually answers the phone. It isn’t fancy but it’s clean and has mini fridges, small coffee pot, microwave, TV and now has WiFi. Located only a mile or so from downtown Cascade population a whopping 900 folks.
Only down side is the parking of boats or machines but the owners and especially Sharon will work to accommodate folks. They did for us letting us clean fish in the laundry room and store the fish in their freezer. Matter-o-fact another Utah angler is up there right now after getting details from us.
Here’s a couple pictures one has phone number and cost right on the sign. Well worth the trip and heck just doing something different and planning for the trip.
