Looks like everyone had a great time. It also looks like it was colder than it was the last time we went! I don’t miss the cold feet. My feet were miserable the last time we were at Huntington. I am still working on the suggestions you gave me about the problems with feet restriction. I am sure that by solving that problem and getting a good pair of neoprene waders I will be able to fish the same cold water you fish.
My week has been pretty hectic. From the Yuba report, I don’t feel too bad about missing that trip. However, I do feel bad about missing the Huntington trip. Great report and pictures.
The wind is supposed to be quite bad tomorrow. I guess you have scapped your fishing plans for tomorrow.
Cold tootsies are the bane of tubers. If you are not properly outfitted, with the right gear and good circulation in the lower extremities, you will not last long in cold water. I could feel that the water was colder yesterday, but my feet never became uncomfortably cold. I wish I could say the same about tubing in the olden days when our choices of waders, fins, booties and socks was more limited. It was a common practice to get out and do the “tuber’s stomp” every half hour or so, to restore feeling to your feet. That’s when enjoyment turned into endurance.
No fishing for me until about midweek next week. Maybe a shot on Jordanelle. Also gotta get up to Pineview. The crappies are a callin’.
When you thinking pinview? I might have to pull the old round boat out of storage again. Of course depending upon weather and what mamatrout has planned for me.[crazy]
Well Air was 1 degree warmer, but that water 4 degrees colder..humm thank Gawd for Pontoons and getting feet out of the water.
Sounds like the fish are more active in the colder.
I hade wool socks on, and my waders have neoprene booties that I wear my hodgeman boots over. When my feet got cold, I just brought them out of the water and let the sun warm them up while drift fishing and then back in. I did that a couple of times.
I was thinking about trying some Gerbing heated socks that you connect to a controler that adjusts the heat and then connects to the battery. It would probally work. Gerbing makes motorcycle heated clothing that plugs in the the bike electrical system. I may try it out some day.
TD said he tried some of the D cell battery ones but they just never got warm enough.
I will take it over heat. I can always layer, but you can only take off so much when it is hot.
Seriously though, I love winter fishing. I just wish all the lakes didn’t freeze over, I do love stillwater. But rivers are cool.

Current forecrash for next week shows Tuesday and Wednesday as the best potentials. Cold and sloppy most other days through next weekend.
Although I usually like to hit the water early, it is different on Pineview. I look for an afternoon with semi calm conditions. Not uncommon this time of year if you get lucky. I launch about 1 or 2 PM and start sonaring the whole area, getting a feel for where the fish are and how deep. Then I either vertical jig off the bottom or up a few feet when the crappies are suspending. Gotta have good sonar.
The good news is that Pineview can be great for tubing, right up to hard deck. And where you last found the fish in your tube is a good place to start when you fire up the auger. That will usually be from 40 - 50 feet deep in the narrows.
