Henry's Lake

Just got a call telling me to get my ars up there. The fishing is still HOT and NO ONE IS THERE! I am stuck here for the next two weeks…bummmer!

We are going back to try again on Saturday. I might have to try some flies that look like nitecrawlers, but I will have to strip them. I don’t think I have the patience to let a fly lay on bottom like a worm. Maybe strip them slow just to give the fly some motion.

We had a blast up there… just got back yesterday and landed a bunch of nice fish …check out my post on the Utah board for Henry’s Lake.

Oh man! You guys are killing me. Here I sit in this classroom (I’m in the Physician Assistant program at ISU) and you are out catching these monsters.

We are going to have to get up that way soon. Is there inexpensive lodging near the lake? We might be able to get up there Saturday evening and fish Sunday.

You know, there are colors of WOOLLY BUGGERS that are to imitate a worm. Try a HOT CHOCOLATE. And yes strip it in. Try fast then try slower

Inexpensive lodging??? Henry’s Lake??? Try a tent and a sleeping bag over along the Red Rock Road somewhere.[frown] It’s free!

Is that campground near a “bank fishing friendly” area? We have no problem setting up our tents and roughing it. [;)] Especially if it means we get to catch some of these beautiful cutthroat!!

The Red Rock Road is a ways away from the Lake, and it isn’t a campground. It’s just a place in the trees. A better option would be to camp either at the County boat dock on the west side of the lake, or at the Cliffs area on the south side of the lake. There’s a dirt road that takes off to the north from the Red Rock road, that takes you over to the cliffs area. There’s a private campground on the R R road, but it’s still a mile to the water. Turn on the dirt road immediatly west of the campground and follow it to the lake. There’s a potty there, but no water. The R R road takes off to the west, just south of where the Henry’s Lake Outlet crosses the main hi-way. Good luck.

The county boat dock area is free and there are still some fish near shore there.

Windriver

Biglew and Windriver,
Thank you for the information. I really appreciate everyone’s willingness to share tips and info.
We are always looking to expand our horizons by exploring new areas.

Thanks again,
Scott

I would go with what wind river said and go around the county boat dock.

Just a short report. Yesterday my friends and I fished Henrys and found a group of of fish that were stacked so thick you wouldn’t believe. None of the fish were big. They were all “cookie cutter” cutts but it was still a blast. I have never seen so many fish caught in my life. We were using intermediate fly lines and Bills black crystal buggers.

I say the county boat dock are also. It is free and not bad. We camp at Red Rock BECAUSE it is away from the lake which means NO BUGS. I have also seen people camping right there at the launch area for Cliffs. Right at the end of the dirt road. There would be some great shore fishing within walking distance there, specially for spin fishing. You will have the cliffs at your back.
EVERET, I though you got enough of those small un’s in the river, where are MY BIG UN’s
