You need to set the frequency after you get the radio set up (batteries, etc.). Most of them are fairly easy, just like programming a VCR (mine still blinks 12:00). (LOL)
Most BFTers still use channel 12.0. Some use 7.0 because you supposedly get longer range…but you have to have special licensing for some of that stuff.
It’s good to get a pair and take them along if you are going tubing or something where you might be separated from your buddy. On some trips there’s a lot of cross chatter, and you need to agree in advance what channel to change to if it gets to be a pain.
