Closer trips and combining trips with errands. Went down to Cabelas yesterday afternoon after errands in SLC. Then drove up American Fork just as the rain, hail and snow hit. Could see the mountain about to be hit but since my dog had waited patiently for 2 hours with the errands couldn’t just drive home and avoid the storm. After 20 minutes in the deluge and not catching anything the precipatation slowed and catching got pretty good. Good way to tell the wife I’d be fishing- " Since I’m already at Cabelas wouldn’t make sense not to drive the few extra miles and go fishing for a bit and get the dog some exercise". Now just scout out stores/ errands close to fishing locations[;)].
Converted my Avalanche to run on CNG ($1.49 gal.) as well as reg. CNG tank holds just over 9 GGE so I have a “cheap range” of about 160 miles. With more stations up and running it’s easy to hit some of the further out locations. 18.6 MPG at $1.50 is like getting 44 MPG at 3
$3.50. Makes it easier to justify getting out more frequently.

I drive a cheve 3/4 ton truck with 5.7 liter engine that is byfuel (natural gas) I just made the trip to the green river c section this weekend. I used 37 gal of natural gas @ $1.50 per gal = 55.50 split 3 ways with partners. Gasoline would have been arround $130. Saved us about $80. A natural gas conversion (about $7000 for a full size truck, $400 for a compac car) will pay for itself in no time, And most important help you keep your line in the water. My kids , and most of my neighborhood all run on nateral gas. We are considering buying the home meter pump (arround $4000) which will make my fuel cost about 75 cents a gallon Just thought i’d give you all an alternative

Not so sure, it’s a slippery slope to get yourself on. What we’ll he do if gas hits $5 a gallon - lower yourself Canadian Club or even a cheap domestic?

This bit of cold weather might actually be a good thing for us. I hear the lakes are already icing off up there, if the weather kept up like it was, the bass might start moving in before I scrounged up the money for a license.
The Logan has been good to me, and there are some smaller, lesser known streams that I’ve been exploring. They’re brushy, and harder to work, but they offer some nice solitude, and some surprisingly nice trout.

I’m, a fan of Yukon Jack and Jeremiah Weed but kind of pricey. Is your “stuff” comparable and a better price? Can I find it in Ut.?
If they go much higher Sunnybrook will be the answer. I went to Roy store and found out that someone had been five fingering the stock of Sunnybrook. Where the pints had been was a sign explaining shoplifting was a crime.[fishin]

Well I would have to figure out how long it would take me to spend $7,000 in gas at whatever the price it ends up but remembering Natural Gas does cost (meaning it isn’t free)
The tank takes up too much truck bed, if you get low, you can’t just pull into any station, natural gas doesn’t give you the same power as gas, so you use more…just some things to concider.
Now if I needed a new car, I would look at a Hybrid, but I own my car so, I am ahead for now.
If you look at the newer cheve conversions, natural gas actually increases both power and milage by arround 20%. My neighbor who recently purchased a new 2010 club cab 4x4 says it pulls his 30’ trailor better than his dodge cummings did. So he sold his dodge. My truck is a 2000 which I bought already natural gas for 7000. Both of these trucks are bi-fuel meaning they automaticaly kick over to regular gas when you run out of natural gas ( I never have to get pulled anywhere) My fuel milage is nearly the same, Tracy’s (neighbor) is better, emmisions are the cleanest out there. As for hybreds, we owned a prius at arround 50-60 miles per gal. traded it in and bought a used caviler (bi-fuel) which gets 28-32 , but when you calculate the fuel cost it is an equivelant of 75 to 85 miles per gal. No comparison in my opinion. You do lose trunk or bed space, however I work construction and haul lumber and tools constantly , and have found it to be only a minor issue that you easily adjust to

Be careful braggin’ up that natty gas. They’ll catch on that we like it and jump it to the moon just like they did deisel a few years back.
Interesting that you say the performance is just as good or better. I had a 2000 Ford F150 company truck with the natty gas and when I switched it from regular gas to natty it was like going from a V-8 to a V-6. Sounds like they’ve improved it quite a bit.
