Filleting Perch

:sunglasses:When I lived in southern Cal I used to go down through Mexicali and down to San Felipe.

I lived in Tucson and Phoenix for about 20 years total and usually went down along the Sonora Side. Puerto Penasco in the north, and then several remote fishing villages of Desemboque, Puerto Lobos, Puerto Libertad and on Down to San Carlos. Puerto Penasco was okay, but got to be overrun with snowbirds and the college party crowd. Also, the water was not always as clear up near the top of the long tidal washed neck.

My favorite spot was Puerto Lobos. Very remote, no water, no power but a few fishing shacks and a lighthouse. You could launch a small boat, but there was plenty of good fishing from the rocks or out in a tube. Easy to catch over 200 fish in a morning
with at least 30 to 40 species in the mix. Crystal clear water, warm as bath water. Great for diving and harvesting some lobsters, scallops and other seafood too.

Here is a link to a thread I put up on the float tubing board quite a while back.

TUBING THE SEA OF CORTEZ

Very Nice. Once you get past the blood sucking border, Mexico is awesome.

:sunglasses:The border is bad enough, but we have not been down there for several years because of what goes on below the border. We no longer feel safe. Mexico does not allow guns but all of the bad guys have them. Good example of what happens when guns are outlawed
only outlaws have guns. Too many tourists being assaulted and robbed
especially in remote areas. I speak good Spanish and get along well with the “people”
but you can’t use humor on hardened criminals or those wackos in the drug business.
