Favorite fish to catch in Utah? Big bluegills from Pelican, UL, and Mantua.![]()
Favorite fish to TRY to catch? Wipers and Crappie in Willard. Walleye anywhere. Anything at the Gorge (still batting zero after 5 years trying). Strawberry cutts (two or three good tries per year, consistently catch one fish each day).
Well lets see??
I like to catch them all but for the best fighting fish for Utah size for size pound for pound and ounce for ounce would have to go to the Small mouth bass…

The picture of the two 5lbers is East canyon before the meat hunters found out about the bass in there..
Most of the others are Jordanelle or Powell ..Not sure if I put any of the ones from the Berry..
The Boulders. Various lakes and rivers there.
Can’t beat the scenery!

A fish is a fish. My favorite fish is the one on the end of my line. Most importatly they all bring smiles.
It’s probably not hard to predict my answer based on my handle… Wiperfly. For me it is not even close. My favorite fish to catch in Utah is a Wiper on a Flyrod.

Brook trout of coarse. Because of where they exist, how they look and fight, and the challenge to find and catch large specimens.
****OH YA OH YA! Brookies a favorite! “THE FIGHTERS OF THE TROUT” Chars a thumbs up!
-
Genus Salvelinus (Char)
-
Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus- Aurora trout, Salvelinus fontinalis timagamiensis- Brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis- Bull trout, Salvelinus confluentus- Dolly Varden trout, Salvelinus malma- Lake trout, Salvelinus namaycush- Silver trout, † *Salvelinus fontinalis * (extinct)
I caught many Brookies as a kid they are not abundant anymore…we must be very cautious or they will extinct along with the silvers and the Bull are having a rough time too in waters close by!

I love to fish in the Uintas. And while the brook trout are beautiful and fun to catch it is always rewarding to catch some cutts while you are out.
