The ones I got on Saturday were about half as deep as the perch. I’d cast out (steep side by the tracks) about 30 feet, hit the bale, and let it sink.
Probably about 20-30ft I’d guess. 1 LMB, 1 Smallie.

BTW-
Glad you two got out and had a good time.
“The Prince of PVC”.
I like it.
Cool, Thanks Tubedude and Loah

That area you fished used to be one of my favorite late season tubing spots. I would park at the end of the road and hoist my old donut up onto my head and trudge my single rod and my fins down the tracks to a good launch spot. In the good old days I didn’t have all the rods, PVC, motor, batteries, sonar, etc. Life was simpler.
Since that is a south-facing shoreline, with coves and pockets, it is subject to soaking up the sun a bit more and holding water temps longer. A couple of degrees at this time of year has a lot of appeal to the chilling fishies.
**That was a good report. I used to use the “chuck a bubble” routine off that shoreline a lot too. **
What some may find interesting is the overall change in the ecology of that area. In the “olden days”…before smallies proliferated…that whole shoreline was swarming with crawdads. Since the smallies took over it is rare to see a mudbug there.
The other thing you mentioned was the cloud of baby bullheads. Since some bucket bozo put those ugly buggers in there we can count on seeing those clouds of black babies each year. The good news is that bass and other predators slurp them up pretty good. And a black marabou jig fished in the area is likely to be a good producer. It has always worked well in Utah Lake from mid summer on…for the same reasons. And the walleyes in Utah Lake absolutely love even larger bullheads. They are good food…even with their sharp little spines. It can be hoped that Deer Creek walleyes will help keep their numbers down.
Here’s a gory pic of a Utah Lake walleye’s bullhead breakfast.

Thanks for the tip of gas, two of the stations up there have premium without ethanol. My boat runs much better with that fuel.
Yeah - keep the alcohol out of the fuel, save it for puttin in the fisherman! ![]()
Nice report. Great fishies - more chunky perch. Another lake I haven’t tried, but oughta.
Yummy treats? Did he bring you some of that smoked Carp?![sly]
So - went with the old-green ride eh Pat? Not taking out big-blue? Alternating so they don’t feel left out?
In the “Fat Ten” shot - is that one of your ‘no-name’ rigs? Spinner below a jig? Looks tasty - or so the perchies think anyway!
The “treats” were leftover Panko fried white bass. Joni lives in a “fish free zone” so does not get to cook fish much at home…but likes it.
The “blue ride” has a new home. It was too big for me to jockey around with fin power alone…the way I use a tube. Loved it but it din’t love me. Can you say cramps?
Lure? Man, nothin’ get’s past your inquiring eyes. That is one in the line of “no name” jigs I have been playing with. So far I just call it a “wobble spin”. I have been doing well with wobble jigs (see pics). But you know me. I gotta mess widdit. So instead of inserting a hook in the mold I formed an eye with bent wire and ran the shaft out the back…where the hook goes. Then when it was poured I added blade, beads and a single hook. The blade spins, the beads rattle, the head wobbles and the worm seals the deal.
Worked great at Starvation and by jingies the Deer Creek denizens vote for it too.

Did someone mention Halloween Party??..and I missed it?DRAT!
I’m thinking I need me one of those floaty toys! Sure looks fun and great catches you two! PIGGY PERCHIES YUM YUM!

Sorry we didn’t send out general party invitations. We have found through past experience if we plan too far in advance and get too many folks involved then Mama Nature has time to plan a real hissy fit when we hit the water. We often don’t hit the GO button until the actual morning of the trip…or late the night before.
We really do need to get some “togetherness” going up north. If not through the ice at least by the spring fling. And we also need to get you in a “floaty toy”. It would open up a whole new world of fishing opportunities for you. No need to replace what you do now…just some different options.
Keep an open mind and an open schedule for next season.
HALLOWEEN PARTY??? I thought it was just a bad hair day!
For some of us, every day is a bad hair day. Halloween is just a chance to blend in.
I might suggest a little less makeup next time though. Not very goddessey.

or maybe like a halfway mark. Like Mantua - or Willard - or ??? Seems to have turned a titch colder up here - trees have decided to let-go their leaves. Start watching for icy ponds in the mornin’ !
Seemed like Mantua was one of the first to freeze up for ice. Nice little pocket of cold surrounded by mnts.
I’ve always been kinda fond of Mantua. My fishing experience there goes way back to the 70’s…BB (Before Barney). Fished it then by dead reckoning and guesswork. No sonar. But guess what? Almost always caught fish.
One big difference was that virtually NOBODY else ever fished it through the ice. Oh, there were a few local farmers who tromped out on the ice in their farmers boots and banged a hole in the ice with an axe…so they could fish worms for trout. But there were no perch and few bluegills or bass. Some, but they were a rarity. Mantua was still being maintained as a trout fishery and whenever anything else showed up it got poisoned.
Never used to see the weeds as bad either. Some weed beds but not the whole lake choked from top to bottom.
**I gotta say that the lake is more productive today than it ever was before…for all species. And overall it is a healthy self-sustaining pond. I get a large charge out of the bassaholics who cry every time a greenfish leaves the water. Man, there are big old bass in there that will die of old age without ever having been above the surface of the water. **
In short, it is probably as good a place as any for a group grope for multi species. Let’s watch the weather and the reports and when the stars all line up right…and Barney curls up by his fireplace…we can gang up on Mantua.
Hint…the ice fishing is probably as good during the first month after iceup as it will be all year. Heavy pressure and diminishing water quality under the ice during a long winter usually slows things down a bit.
I sure hope not. I plan on a few night and day sessions on DC this year. Those perch are good eating and just the right size for a good fish fry!
I caught one smallie throught the ice at deer creek in 65 ft of water right off the bottom.I was after walleye but it was a nice 15’'er. Goes right with what Tube Dude said.
Sounds grrreat! Had a float tube about 25 years ago enjoyed the heck out of it…didn’t have all the bells and whistles but it was fun! Might have to research this and gear up for spring.
In the mean time hoofin the river and waiting for ice…

Hoofin the rivers is about the only way…LOL but STILLWATER, well that is a whole new world. I will say, at this time, the shore anglers are doing better than a lot that get out ON the water. Fish are swimming the shore lines.
Yep their movin in chomp mode. We did pretty well trollin Twin w/pop gear last weekend…yet still not my favorite. Just love the river right now!
Smiley!

I assume you are talking BIG rivers with the metal fish…![]()
Oh Baby don’t temp me!lol Wish I had the time and funds to play up North for a few days right now.[:p] I usually sneak away for em in Mar-April.
For now just fishin Cache Valley rivers.
I think I remember that you play in Ideehoo??
