_Lepomis cyanellus, or more commonly referred to as the “Green Sunfish”_
I caught one of those last Saturday at the Fabulous Utah Lake. Mine was about 9". (State record is 10 1/2"!)
Here is a pic. (The middle one: Green Sunfish) At first I though it was a bluegill, but then I caught a Blugill and saw the difference. (bluegill is the BOTTOM fish in the picture!)
Where did you catch yours?

I might be way off base but that looks like a larger UL gill to me.. Its mouth looks to small to be a Pumpkin seed.. Note the larger mug in the picture I posted..

Your both wrong ! They’re brim ! LOL! Sorry, a little southern humor there.
Actually, Both your’s and N.E.T.O’s “big” fish are Green Sunfish. Notice the mouth, the tail and the color.
Pumpkinseed’s are a different species.

Could that be a rock bass? That looks like the one I caught at Lake Erie a few years back. The mouth looks larger than the ones on greenies or bluegills.

Rock Bass have a more distinctive lateral line and look a bit different. I grew up in an area with all of those fish Rock bass(several other fish are also called Rock bass), sunfish, pumpkins, and gills and sundry other fish lumped together with the label “Brim” - Bream to the more northern southerners.

Back in Kansas in my youth, I caught literally hundreds of green sunfish.
I’m gonna guess - Holmes Creek. You can’t swing a dead cat around BFT without hitting a Holmes Creek thread or post!!!🕶

ok i’m getting a kick out off this fish.. green sunfish,pumkin seeds,green perch,and rock bass. are all the names i have seen this fish have. so guess it’s where you are as to what it is.. N.A.T.O. fish does look like a bluegile to me tho not a sunfish.
sunfish look like SM. bass with bluegile marking’s.. realy a cool fish in my book..

🕶 **Sorry, bro. The larger fish is a FEMALE bluegill. They are usually lighter colored than the males. Green sunfish have much larger mouths in proportiion.**
